  1. Yes, being waitlisted feels more painful than being rejected.

When I applied for MD last year, the school gave an applicant day which includes an interview and written test. Decisions should have been made after that. But I was 'selected' for a 2nd interview a month later. The person on the phone said a lot on how rare it is for them to interview an applicant again. It took almost another month after the 2nd interview to receive the notification that I was rejected. In the meanwhile, I had lost count of the number of lengthy emails they sent to me implying that I was still on the waitlist.

I naively thought I could get it and wanted the MD so badly. Consequently, I missed the deadlines for PhD programs that year. I swore never to apply to that school again.

  2. Selphie, have no fear. It's a bit too early, I think... I hope! I would start worrying toward the middle to end of February. As someone posted above, when they spoke to someone at UChicago, they said the latest they can stop by is the first week of February, so that means they are still considering apps. Keep up the hope!

Thanks Ramblr! Still keeping fingers crossed (although it's coming to mid-Feb and my fingers are getting stiff). ;)

Good luck to everyone aiming for U of C!

  3. It seems like a lot of people dream about Stanford, here-- even those who didn't apply! Wonder why that is?

Maybe Stanford has secret control of the dream universe, and they are using it to subconsciously influence us to do.... something. I don't actually know what.

    LOL....

so... at least my sanity is slightly protected by that rejection letter received yesterday?

  4. I had a dream I got an email that said "What are you a retard?" it had attached files and I had to open them. The first was the comment above with a large red arrow pointing to my GRE scores. the rest was my SOP marked in red.

At the bottom it said "Congratulations, you were the least stupid of the stupid applicants who applied, you are accepted-idiot"

    talk about a nightmare

Thanks for lifting the bleak atmosphere for a short while.

I don't mind how harsh the letter reads, if only for that critical sentence in a fat envelope. Maybe waiting has driven me nuts.

  5. Nineve16- was that from Northwestern? I was glad that they actually said "Dear_____," and not "Dear applicant." Gotta love the little things.

I so agree with your signing-off message (the one after the actual post). The Great Waiting Period is not for the emotionally and psychologically weak... :(

  6. Well, I really don't have time, but I am willing to sacrifice my less-than-exciting part-time jobs for traveling and visiting schools. I applied to a small number (6) so it's manageable. Thanks for the good luck vibes, and good luck yourself!

Aww... I should have done that.

I haven't heard from UChicago at all yet. Shall I ring them up or just assume that the outcome will be bleak?
