  1. You certainly have nothing to lose in doing so, since they have already chosen not to extend you an offer of acceptance this season.

On the other hand, you might not like the answer. I know a gal who solicited feedback in this fashion, and she heard back from one DGS:

"Nothing you have done...neither your 4.0 at the Master's level, your publications, your conferences, your recommendations, nor any other aspect of your application is sufficient to compensate for your undergraduate GPA."

    (Yes, that's a direct quote).

Just saying...can you handle a response like that in your inbox? If so, then by all means, ask for feedback - but if that made you cringe and flinch, you might want to forego it and remember that ignorance really is bliss, sometimes...!

Jesus. It's nice to know there are still those out there who get their "feel good feelings" by perpetuating the stereotype of the snot-nosed English academic prick.

  2. While I did not apply to UGA, so I do not share that worry, the fear of a friend getting in (which I am very happy for) and then myself not getting into anywhere is terrifying. The social interactions and being asked about my process when someone in my group of friends already was accepted . . . uh. Gonna take the wind out of the sails. sad.gif

Oh this process is making me into a nut case. blink.gif

Yes, it's very hard not to think about it ALL the time or to let it affect one's current work, obligations, etc. I'm in so much debt from my Master's (and from those application fees, transcript fees, etc.), the idea of not getting in anywhere makes the pit in my stomach get a little bigger each day.

'Course, it helps to hear from folks like you who are going through the same sort of thing. I do wish you the best of luck as you wait it out!

  3. I'm experiencing the same worries over here. I saw on gradcafe that someone received an acceptance letter from UGA the other day. UGA was one of the schools (out of the nine I applied to) that I thought I had a pretty decent chance of getting into, so now I'm really worried that I'm not going to get in anywhere, as most of the schools I applied to are supposed to be more "competitive" than UGA :(
