Wow, thanks kona for the insight and in-depth outline of the process. In past years, I have seen that STAR recipients have posted as to whether or not they received phone calls. This year there has yet to be any awardees come forward. I want to think that there is still an internal review being that many rejection notices have been sent.

Hey generalist, sorry to hear about the news. What was your packet dated as? I assume that mine will be coming as well.

I agree with itsavailable in terms of how packets were already sent into internal review yet there is quite a few FON's that haven't heard anything yet. I have a feeling that more rejections have yet to trickle out. With this said, I have now begun the accepting phase of rejection even though I haven't received anything. I told myself on the front end of applying that I should have the attitude of "Hope for the best, but expect the worst."

Again, I find myself looking on this forum to see if anyone has heard anything new.

I sure hope so. As for me, I am crawling out of my skin right now. Checked the mail today and no rejection for J3.

fuiaa, did you get a summarized review from the panel or three individual reviews? After reviewing earlier posts, it seems like the longer it takes to get a rejection packet the further you must be advancing.

I hear ya. Some days normally seem to drag on but I feel like the next few weeks will be in slow motion until I hear something. Wish you and everyone else good luck.

Called in last week to the EPA about my application status and finally received a follow-up call today. In short, the contact person said that if you haven't received a declination letter by now then most likely you have made it to the final internal review. Additionally, I was told that it is still a long process at the internal review and to not expect anything quickly.

Placed a phone call to the EPA today in hopes to find out a little more information. I was only given the option to leave a message for someone to return my phone call at a later date in regards to this matter. Was really hoping to find out earlier being other fellowship acceptance deadlines are nearing.

This is my assumption at this point in time. I applied under the J3 Ecosystem Services: Terrestrial Systems Animal Ecology FON and have yet to see anyone post anything.

Do you know if your rejection and later award timing was possibly correlated to the FON you applied for?

Another day without a letter

I applied for the J3 Ecosystem Services: Terrestrial Systems Animal Ecology. Still no news and I am not sure if the phrase "No news is good news" applies.

Thanks for the insight and your post corresponds to the EPA STAR Fellowship 2011 Archive page which states "The 2011 STAR Fellowship Award notice date will be delayed until May 30, 2011". Kind of a bummer having to wait things out at least 2 months longer.
