  1. sorry to hear things aren't going so well...but i did want to give you some words of encouragement, if you end up going out on the job market: i'm pretty sure that having relevant work experience on my resume was one of the principle reasons i had a successful season. (i've been out of undergrad for a few years and currently work in politics.) so don't think of having to get a job as a defeat, just a step in bolstering your application if/when you resubmit.
  2. i think others in the thread have answered the questions re: how the waitlist works (i haven't the slightest idea). i don't yet know whether i'll end up at ND, but i'm certainly very interested. trying to choose between 3 really good offers right now. and seriously, fingers crossed for you! it is a small program (they told me they only had one americanist enroll last year), so think positive thoughts.
  3. i was admitted to ND and i spoke to a prof last week about the expected size of their incoming class, and i think it's very small. (he said that only 4-5 in american were admitted total! so i'm assuming it was probably 12-15 across the program.) so if people start declining, i would think that your odds are pretty good--but then again, i don't know the size of their waitlist (although i would presume small again, given the size that typically enrolls). good luck!
  4. fingers DEFINITELY crossed.
  5. thank you thank you! yes it is actually. maybe this means a watched pot never boils, i.e. i need to keep myself away from the computer and away from constantly checking the results page and boards and i'll hear back from the rest of my schools? (ha.)
  6. i wouldn't worry yet AT ALL. the letter was actually dated feb 17 so i expect that they're just rolling out admissions slowly. also, i think mine is the only one on the results page (i know it's a sunday, but still), so there HAVE to be more coming. fingers crossed and good luck!
  7. in at notre dame! email came around 8:45 this morning...huh?! well at least it's a nice way to start a sunday.
  8. please tell me someone else can share in the misery of not having not heard anything, good or bad, from any school, over the past week. i felt sure today was going to be a day of responses. i still haven't heard from 7 programs; how is this even possible this late in the game?! i am beyond frustrated.
  9. totally still in limboland with you for nw. i've been obsessively checking both websites and still nothing. the longer i wait to get a rejection, the more angry i become--the long wait gives me the false hope that maybe we'll fall into the same category as some of the folks on the results boards (berkeley had one) that just ended up getting in something like a week after the other admits? but that's probably not grounded in reality. sigh. still in limbo at uva too. any others?
  10. what the hell is going on with all the uva? saw news on the results board and checked my online app to find NOTHING. this, along with northwestern, marks another instance where i'm just stuck in godforsaken limboland with no news, good OR bad. grrrrrrr.
  11. ha! i thought the same thing this morning...
  12. ditto. this is agonizing.
  13. hahaha thanks, and seriously, don't worry. if they're sending out bizarro emails that are missing so much information, i don't think that they can be close to having notified everyone. but yeah, i know what you mean--now we have to be on edge on the weekends too?! that's just unfair. and by far the most agonizing thing is looking at the results page and seeing that people have been admitted to schools to which you applied, but you haven't heard anything. at least they could grace us all with rejections off the bat! i'm starting to think that ad comms are all just a bunch of sadists.
  14. thanks! it actually came from aurelian craiutu, an associate prof and "director of recruitment." it does mention sharon laroche as someone who will be working with him to handle things from here on out. in terms of weirdness: the email came in 3 different font sizes and colors! and it had links to slideshows and powerpoints about the program and touted accomplishments of faculty, none of which were in my subfield. which isn't weird per se, but it was just oddly specific in those areas although there was no mention of funding. but i think mostly the fact that all of this happened so late tonight is what's strange.
  15. so i just got accepted to indiana...at 10:45 eastern on a friday night?! very bizarre e-mail too. no details on funding.
