  1. A lot of the past year's student's work seems very rooted in documentary based photography. This year, if you look at their blog, it only seems like maybe half of the students are invested in that style and I've heard from others that ICP itself is sort of geared towards that genre as a museum. I don't think there would be pressure to "fit" into that type of work but it seems to be the dominant style of work students have produced.
  2. SMFA has a great website! That's a good sign, first of all. I really don't know much about RIT but I'm curious to know what your funding situation about be like there as you will not be enjoying the benefits of being in a large city center like you would at ICP, MassArt or SMFA. I currently live in the Midwest and had no desire to stay here, so for me, I was deciding between west or east coast and decided to apply only to New York in the hopes of setting up a new live/work station and sort of revamping my practice as a whole. If this isn't important to you, think about one teacher you would definitely love to work with at each location and judge by that. Also, class size is important. I know that ICP only has 10 incoming students and their overall aesthetic is pretty specific, which is part of the reason why I was a little nervous about going there myself. Best of luck, either way!
  3. ACT, I got into ICP-Bard with an award and it's still VERY expensive. Today is the final day to send in a decision and I'm leaning towards no :/. My other option is Parsons Fine Arts with a BIG award and the possibility to teach the second year and I think that might be a better choice.
  4. I heard back from ICP-Bard by phone three weeks ago with an acceptance and just received a confirmation email with a little more information yesterday. They want an answer by March 25th, so I'm thinking they either have rolling admissions and are doing two phases or are intentionally making people decide before other programs' deadlines so that they can steal them : / .
  5. I was accepted to the MFA program in Fine Arts at Parsons last Monday by phone after interviewing in mid-February through Skype.
  6. I got into Parsons for Fine Arts with funding and ICP-Bard for Photo with no word on funding yet. I really don't know how to compare the two, they seem radically different and are both relatively new with no reputation to speak of, good or bad. Does anyone have an opinion or some insider knowledge of either one?
  7. Accepted to Parsons Fine Art today by phone with 75% tuition coverage and a position in their "top 3" for whatever that's worth! I was also accepted to ICP-Bard by phone last Friday with pending information about funding. I interviewed for both in mid-February via Skype. Decisions, decisions!
  8. SVA does not do interviews, I just emailed. It also says on their website that decisions will be delivered by post April 1st.
  9. NYU rejection this morning here, too.
  10. I had an interview with ICP-Bard last weekend and they said they would be making decisions this week or next. Still haven't heard anything from SVA. Does anyone know if they interview or accept outright? I had an interview with Parsons 2 weeks ago but it was in the Fine Arts department. They didn't foreclose any information about when decisions would be made, although I'm not sure if they are aligned with the photo department.
  11. Which program at NYU did you apply for? Steinhardt? Did they contact you through email or phone?
  12. I think that each of these three is different. SVA has a lot of different departments (for instance, I applied for Photography, Video and Related Media) and I think their overall project may be a bit more commercial, Parsons seems to be the most academic and seems to sit alone as the only "Fine Arts" section of the graduate school (as opposed to one of the design programs at the same school), and Pratt I know nothing about. I did hear that the "Fine Arts" programs at both Parsons and Pratt were newer and that the faculty weren't quite giving enough attention to them as standalone departments yet, but it was very gossipy and from a visiting artist's perspective, so you would have to talk to a student to get a more accurate answer. Overall I think: Parsons if you want to become more polished SVA if you're interested in doing work with the arts industry Pratt seems like the place to experiment and distill whatever it is you're doing now But that's just me making assumptions from their personas online and in catalogues.
  13. Parsons: Skype Interview 2/18 - they gave me the option to do it then or on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week Columbia - Nothing Hunter - Nothing SVA - Nothing Pratt - Nothing - but I know they don't interview, so it may be a bit longer. I also have a Skype interview with ICP-Bard for this Saturday which was scheduled at the beginning of this month (2/2 I think?) Hope this helps a little! I looked at last year's posts and it seems like the first week of March is when most of these programs request interviews.
