  1. info for the spreadsheet that i forgot to ever post! name: JO country: Sri Lanka (though eventually awarded ETA to India) region: Central & South Asia grant: ETA interview: N status: Alternate turned Accepted (to different country in region) address: Current notification: 4/29/2011 --- (alternate to accepted notification one week later) postmark: 4/25/2011 method: small white envelope academic status: undergrad
  2. to be clear---fulbright pays for both the DC orientation flights and the international flights to and from the country, correct?
  3. SOOOOOOOO I'm an alternate and cara doble called my house, but I'm at school. I called back, but no answer and I left a message. WHY WOULD SHE BE CALLING ME? would she call if it wasn't good news??? dying.
  4. ALTERNATE STATUS = THE WORST STATUS IN THE WORLDDDDDDDDDDDD just kidding. speaking of first world problems again... But seriously, this may be worse than rejection. maybe.
  5. 8 days since the supposed postmark date..........that can't be good. right? this is torture.
  6. aPPiah, I emailed Cara last week and go no response. Which made me think I probably didn't get the grant and I'll find out soon enough so she didn't even bother to email me haha. I'm in Illinois, so hopefully whatever was sent Friday will get here soon!
  7. Did she tell you how big the envelope is? I probably would have made her open it and read it to me if I were you. haha. Good luck!
  8. Oh God.......What does it mean if she responded to your email and not to mine? I'm starting to feel as though I did not get it. OH WELL. I guess I'm hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. I have to tell myself daily that I have other options and that I didn't even expect to make the first cut....It's just terrible waiting this long and realizing it all may have been for nothing.......I JUST WANT TO KNOW.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But thanks for letting us know, rosegirl!!
  9. Rosegirl and Appiah, So good to hear from other people waiting on Sri Lanka!!! I applied for an ETA and I have been dying waiting.......Have either of you contacted Cara and asked about when we might be hearing? I already have emailed her a couple times concerning adding a TESOL certification to my application so I don't want to bother her, but I have another job that I will have to give an answer to by the end of April. Also, do you guys have any experience with the language?
  10. definitely had a dream that i got the grant last night. UGH............................
  11. HEY! Congrats! Just wanted to share what little information I know about Indonesia and Fulbright. My favorite professor was granted a full grant to do research on agriculture in Indonesia, BUT her visa from the government never went through. She kept getting denied. I think it got to 6 months after she was supposed to have left. At that point she withdrew. Apparently, even if you are waiting for a visa for 2 years and never actually leave the US, that will count as your time as a fulbright grantee. So she withdrew to reapply later. Anyway, I think that was the story. The important part for you, I guess, is that she received the grant, was ready to go, but it fell through. Hopefully that won't happen to you!!! But I'm assuming that's why they included all that in what they sent you.
  12. I'm waiting for sri lanka as well! ETA or full?
  13. I'm obsessed with them too.....i can't wait until the first updates start trickling in. AHHHHHHHHH!
  14. Hey, I saw on the facebook fulbright page that someone who is a ETA finalist for Nepal was recently notified that she needed to do a skype based interview thing. Reading that made me wonder if an interview is typical for most ETA finalists? I suppose it's something that varies from country to country. I was recommended to Sri Lanka. Maybe I just need to calm down and stop thinking about all this stuff. It's almost impossible not to.
  15. one more question.....not all countries require a phone interview, correct?
