  1. Excellent! Thanks for the news. Did you talk to Rachel?
  2. It's probably because people are more likely to report acceptances than rejections.
  3. y.amy.tang, i live in nyc too. i wonder why it took the letter two business days to get to you. do you live in staten island? i only ask becuase i am hoping to get my letter the next business day after it's sent out because that's how long it usually takes for me to get mail from Manhattan addresses. although, waiting two days really isn't a big deal.
  4. I don't understand why people are upset by cavalier08's comment. I think she/he was just expressing annoyance because someone keeps messing up the spreadsheet (something we can all understand) and people have been misinterpreting her/his expression as mean-spirited. I'm sure it was not.
  5. Excellent! Thanks for sharing. I hope 'next week' means Monday...but probably not.
  6. Hey Iceland finalists! Good to hear from you. I also noticed that we are all creative types. Last year 3 out of the 6 Iceland grantees were artists and the year before that it was 4 out of 6. Maybe it's a coincidence or maybe Icelanders like having artists come to their country. I've applied to work on a writing project with research help from a professor at the University of Iceland.
  7. I don't think anyone has answers to your questions. My guess is that if you were not rejected then you were probably just as good as the people selected for grants but because they can't fund everyone who applies not everyone can win. You made it through the first round of cuts and you were selected as an alternate. Clearly you did more things right than wrong.
  8. It's so disappointing to hear 2 weeks. When she emailed me on the 17th she said 2 weeks. I was hoping to know my status by this Friday. Thanks for getting in touch with her and sharing the info.
  9. Hey, Don't know why it didn't occur to me to share this earlier but I emailed Rachel and she got back to me on March 17 with this: "We're still waiting on a confirmation of budget, so although selections have been made, we won't be issuing notifications for another 1-2 weeks at least."
  10. Hi, I applied for an ASF fellowship to Iceland and didn't get it.
  11. what is going on with the spreadsheet? that is really distracting and kind of pathetic. does anyone see what i see?
  12. These notification letters are all being sent out from New York City right? Or are they coming from DC?
  13. Hey, awesome news! Are you Philrob22 on the spreadsheet or is that another Finland grantee?
  14. Hi, This link has all the info: http://us.fulbrightonline.org/info_recommended_candidates.html
  15. Hi Strgrl522, I applied At-Large. The application process went fine for me. I figured out what I needed to do and got it done. I completed my application to my satisfaction then got in touch with the FPA at my alma mater and asked her to read my essays and make some notes. She said she was happy to. She made some suggestions and I made some edits and that was it. That's all the help I got with my application and all the help I wanted. I prefer to work on things independently without too much interference from others. What kind of support do you want? Do you need to sit down with someone to help you flesh out ideas or are you clear and confident about how you want to construct your application? Now that you're out of school your only choice might be to apply At-Large but you never know. I think different schools have different policies. Hope this helps.
  16. I think i found the answer to my own question on this page. It says "Applications are reviewed by committees in the U.S. Results are collated and panels of recommended candidates for each country receiving U.S. Student grantees are compiled." So I guess the wording is there but easy to miss if you're not paying attention.
  17. A few people here have mentioned something about our applications being ranked before they are sent abroad. I don't believe people are making things up but I am curious to know what source this information comes from because it doesn't seem to be something widely known among applicants. or maybe it is and i am out of the loop.
  18. April does feel pretty far off but i realized tomorrow will be exactly 4 weeks since we were notified of our finalist status. A whole month, a third of the way there. That went by pretty fast. At least I think so.
  19. Thanks, JCandy, but i am aware of that page and it doesn't contain the info i am looking for. I guess i could go country by country and add up the numbers to see approximately how many grants are available this year but there still isn't any info on the total number of people who applied for 2011-2012. it's no big deal. i was just curious about how competitive the program was this year. maybe that figure hasn't been made public yet.
  20. As I was looking through last years thread I found a post that contained a copy of a first round rejection letter. One sentence pointed out that there were approximately 7,300 applicants for about 1,500 grants. I am curious to know if anyone has the numbers for this year's competition?
  21. Hi everyone. I'm a finalist for Iceland. I'm so grateful. I really want this, as I imagine we all do.
