  1. Good to know. I can't believe places don't even bother to send out a rejection. It seems like basic manners, after someone has sent in a record of their life's work, to at least send them a generic "we regret to inform you" letter, so that they can stop wondering. People always tell me that academia is uncivilized, but it never ceases to amaze.
  2. That really stinks. I'm sorry to hear it. On the positive side, it looks like you applied to a good number of schools, so hopefully something will come through!
  3. If a school is calling people for prospective student visits, and I haven't heard, should I assume I am out of the running? Man, this is really getting me down.
  4. I haven't heard anything yet, either.
  5. Ha! Right?! I must be a glutton for punishment, because I cannot stop checking my e-mail, hoping that "someone" will be my valentine but fully expecting to get my heart stomped.
  6. I am guessing schools will not be put off of sending out rejections on Valentine's Day. Anyone think I'm wrong about this?
  7. Realistically, though, it means I'm probably not getting in anywhere, right? Because it doesn't seem like schools ever get more funding than they thought they'd have... Wow. I thought for sure I had a decent shot at getting in someplace, even if I didn't have a lot of choice about where it was. This is feeling like a shutout.
  8. Yeah, same sort of feeling here. But it's especially weird when you see that acceptances, rejections, and waitlists have all come from one school, and you haven't gotten any of the three. It feels like you're in limbo, which I suppose is better than rejection, but probably means the outcome isn't looking rosy, either. Anyone know why this happens? Some acceptances and rejections go out from a particular school, but not all for that school?
  9. Thanks. That makes me feel a bit better. It's so weird seeing that BOTH acceptances and rejections have gone out from these places. It's like, "They must have decided. Why are others hearing and I haven't?" Then again, maybe ignorance is bliss. I'd like to think it means I'm still in the running -- though if it were a clear decision from them, I suspect I wouldn't be sitting here without a letter of any kind.
  10. I'm wondering who else is in the position I'm in -- I applied to a number of schools that have sent acceptances and rejections to others, but I haven't heard anything. Anyone else in this position and/or know what's going on?
