any alternates hear anything yet? i'm wondering if the NSF delay might force Ford to push back its schedule a little...

best places for constructivism in IR: cornell, minnesota, ohio state. other places have top faculty (i.e. finnemore at GW), but in terms of the best departments, those are probably the cream of the crop.

you NW folks who haven't heard yet must still be under consideration. seems like people who made it to their final admit/rejection rounds didn't hear until april last year. at the least, it means you're still in the game. my money's on columbia emailing rejections either in the next 3 hours, or tomorrow - the first round of rejections came last saturday, right?

agreed! at first it seemed like we were probably waitlisted, which would have made the extra wait much more tolerable. but seeing how many people on this board still hadn't heard, plus the vague responses from columbia, it became pretty obvious that we were all going to have to wait an extra week before getting axed.

i'm almost positive chicago is done. they mail rejections, so it might just be taking a while to get out to you. georgetown, not sure...they didn't do final admits 'til later in march last year, so maybe you still have a shot. i've heard they're responsive, so maybe its worth your time to call them up and see if they have any more rounds of application reviews left. columbia...a handful of us have no clue about that one. following last year's results, we're probably waitlisted. following two years ago, we're rejected. and according to our various correspondences with columbia, we have no clue. feel free to contact them - maybe you'll get a real answer! basically, we're either rejected or waitlisted, but nobody is saying.

i'm tempted to reference blazing saddles, but i'll resist. i called up GSAS today,they hope to get everything online by the end of the week. in terms of waitlists, they didn't know - they thought the departments emailed all admits and waitlists, but didn't know if this actually happened with each department. who knows what's happening...last year, seems like people were told all admits and waitlists were all contacted by early march, but people who actually got waitlist info in mid-march never heard anything before that point. whatever.

Ha...yeah, I know. I'm just thinking about the fact that so many people on this board haven't heard anything yet...schools do small waitlists. It doesn't make sense that we'd all be waitlisted. I'm expecting the guillotine drops by the end of the week. I'd love to be wrong, but it just doesn't make sense otherwise, even though this does follow last year's pattern for the waitlisted.

and according to the results page, 2 years ago, a second round of rejections went out right around now. so...who knows wtf is going on! do we know if any waitlist offers went out yet this year?

they notified wait lists right around the same time last year, too. hmm...though as we all know, correlation is not causation.

they've already rejected people, right? if so, that's definitely a waitlist email, so sort of congrats. you're still in the game. i don't get why some schools don't tell you you're on a waitlist early - most do, some opt for waiting to hear back from their higher-ranked candidates. i get why they don't admit you initially - considering the economy, schools may need to exercise great caution to ensure they don't over-admit. but why not at least tell you initially that you're on a waitlist? if they're worried about people on that list bombarding them with emails/calls, just make it clear that there will be no further info until they give it to you.

did you contact them? if so, i take it they didn't tell you anything? if that's the case, i dunno...that says "rejection wave forthcoming" to me as soon as they get around to it - if we were indeed waitlisted, why wouldn't they say something?

hmm...anyone contact them? i still don't see why they would wait to notify waitlists, but i'm willing to buy into the "we're waitlisted if we haven't heard yet" line for now.

thanks for stepping up, AllFiredUp! if we don't get a massive wave of rejections tomorrow, you might actually be right that we're on a formal or defacto wait list - this seems to be exactly what happened last year, with all the rejections on one day, then wait lists a week later. though, given how many applicants columbia has, i still think its possible it is taking them multiple days to upload rejection letters onto every poli sci phd applicant's online application.

so...if there isn't a massive rejection wave from columbia tomorrow (i think there will be, but i hope i'm wrong), who's the brave soul willing to contact the department to find it if there is a de facto or official waitlist that those of us who haven't heard are on?
