  1. I have a tough decision: UVa may be the only school I got into, but I'm starting to suspect I am offered no funding (many others have received offers, and I've heard nothing). Virginia's a really great school for me, but tuition is $24,000 out of state. Secondly, on their website it says "70 % of incoming PhDs are funded in their first year, *all students in good academic standing are funded in years 2-4*, and 90% are funded after 5+ years". What should I do?!? I have no student loan debt after a BS and an MA; should I just take out loans the first year? Or do you think they really won't give me funding in years 2-4? Signed, Freaking out!
  2. See, I actually got my acceptance from UVa, but not info about funding. Although I wasn't sure at first, as I investigate the program more thoroughly, it has now become my #1. Yea, Charlottesville!
  3. Any Virginia admits out there? I want to know what's the word on funding.... is the person here who already got their offer? (saw it on the results list) Wondering if I should send an email asking about funding. Their website says decisions are made mid-march, but someone claimed to already have gotten an offer. I've been anxiously checking the mail everyday since, and nothing...
  4. Hi, long time reader, 1st time poster. I claim the Vanderbilt rejection. I did NOT receive other emails. Here is the email from Jonathan Hiskey: "I am sorry that you have not been notified yet of our admission decisions. I had sent out personal emails to the list I had, but apparently your email was missing. I am sorry to say that you were not among the very few applicants that we extended an offer of admission to. With over 230 applicants we had to turn down many very qualified applicants." If you haven't received anything yet, I hate to say it, but outlook might not be good. Email Jonathan.
