My advice is stop showing off and just pick one reasonably. What could be the worst for god's sake? Harvard? Yale? Or Princeton? No offense, but I think what you do is just annoying.

No one has posted on this one in a while....

I am considering moving to ATL next year and was wondering what it is like. I am a young (early 20's) female and I only applied to schools in city areas because I prefer city life - having lots to do, variety of people and professions, going out to bars & clubs, nice restaurants... and the southern weather is a perk.

How easy is it to meet people in Atlanta?

    Is it really that unsafe?

What are some great things to do in Atlanta - favorite restaurants, bars, clubs, concerts, sports teams? (Just because I'm a grad student doesn't mean I'm going to throw my social life down the drain)

What is the general vibe of the place?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

The faculty is indeed very good but I don't think you'd get too close to them while doing an MA. The MA is a cash cow; if you have a funded offer from a PhD program, I'd take it.

Generally, no. They may match funding from an external source, but nothing beyond that.

Don't go anywhere unless they give you money. Once you are already there and paying full tuition why should they waste their resources on you since you are already there as opposed to funding someone else who they hope to entice?

SHOW ME THE MONEY should be everyone's mentality here.

Consensus seems to be that they aren't yet done with admits, given the large number of acceptances they issue each year:

    Remaining funding, however, is unclear.

    ------------

I emailed JHU last week to confirm my rejection/waitlist status, just to pull off the band-aid already, and still haven't heard back. Cold indeed, Ms. Hall, cold indeed.

    Edit:

Just contacted Cornell, out of curiosity.

There were glitches in the grad school's application system; applications didn't reach the Govt dept until recently (far more recently than that last email would have us believe); adcom is meeting this week; decisions begin next week.

I guess I would offer advice if the question made sense on a fundamental level. Namely, how is it even possible that one could know how to play the game well enough to get those kinds and combinations of offers and yet not understand how to go about choosing between them? As for those who chastised you for bragging, I think they were misguided: is it really bragging to flaunt that kind of basic inability to make a decision? I call troll.
