Student housing applications are open! Where's everyone applying to?
So far I'm putting Lyman before Rains - from what I can see, both look about the same, except that Lyman has a piano practice room. Am I crazy?

Username? Because Tolkien's Eagles are badass.
When I'll be bothered to find the avatar I want, it'll be the cover to either Robot Visions or Robot Dreams. Or one of the robot murder books. Because Asimov's robots are badass.

GTFO NOOB
At least that one would get a chuckle out of me.

I didn't get any funding from the department.
I wish there was some other way to get funding, i really wanted to go to that school!
I got the letter today - and I'm not getting any funding either...

"The year 2016 will bring love and joy to millions of people. Unfortunately, none of them will be you."
Reminds me of Weird Al's "Your Horoscope for Today":
"A big promotion is just around the corner - for someone way more talented than you." (Or something along those lines)

Aero & Astro MS here. Unless they change their minds by mid-March.
I have 2 questions for anyone familiar with the university and/or the area-
Where can I rent a plane and go flying, and do I get a student discount? (Is there any place where I could continue to learn aerobatics?)
How easy is it for non-music majors to play music? (I play the piano and the organ, but I haven't found any organ around where I am right now, and I miss it...)

Hi Thorondor, Congratulations on your admission. Would you like to share your profiles here? Thanks!
Not sure it'll help a lot since I applied as an international student, but here goes:

Major(s): Aerospace Engineering
Overall GPA: Around 15/20 last year, which I believe is somewhere between 3.5 and 4.0 GPA
Length of Degree: Well, it's an odd system. Grad degrees take 5 years to obtain. Anyone want more information?

Type of Student: I
GRE Scores:

V: 610
W: 4.0
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Private pilot

Getting back from the day's classes. I (naturally) checked my emails before preparing my dinner, and I saw something about a Student Visit Day. So basically, I knew when I opened the message that I was accepted. I then called my parents, aunt/uncle & grandparents, told a few friends, and went back to work. Fraking Java.

When I start grad school this fall, I'll have to wait nearly 2 months until I can legally buy alcohol... Then again, it's not like I need it.
Apparently, age matters not too much, since I got accepted!

I certainly hope they take more than 4 or 5 students. Last year, they took 3 students from my current university. This year we're at least 2.
what (if anything) was said about funding in your admission email/letter?
Not much of anything in the email - it was essentially an invitation to the Visit Day. The only other useful information (well, apart from being admitted ) was that we'd get a more detailed letter by March 20.
So excited!

Looks like I got an EV studio - and I'm wondering if I should ask for reassignment.
Rent is $1181, which looks like it's below average for Palo Alto, but a tad expensive for on-campus housing. There's a piano room. It's decently large. So far, so good. And I won't have to worry about bothering a roommate - which is precisely what bothers me a little, because it's easy to go antisocial...
Thoughts?
