  1. Why don't you call to the admission offices of these schools and let them know what the situation is. I am pretty sure that if you explain them what's going on, they will let you know if a decision has already been taken for your application. This way you will have a better perception of what your options are.

So I have kind of a dilemma at this point. I got a great job offer from Amazon, but I still want to go to Grad School. My top choices (MIT, Stanford, Berkeley) have already rejected me. I have a good funding offer from Virginia Tech (which is great in my research area, Wireless Comms), and have received admits so far without funding notifications from UCSB and Purdue. Out of the schools I have not yet heard from, UCLA, UIUC, Caltech and USC would be my top choices. I have to let Amazon know by next Friday. Currently I'm leaning towards Amazon if I don't hear from other schools from there (mainly because Seattle is much better than middle-of-nowhere Virginia and location is a big factor for me).

    What do you guys think?

  2. I actually did call them and I said I am calling to check the status of my application. They said that they cannot tell me that over the phone but they can tell me that all decisions will be mailed by March 15th. Then I said okay given that the open house is on Friday march 4th, does this imply that the decision is probably going to be a rejection? And she said that "I wouldn't assume that!. We are sending both admissions and rejections. Of course the question "why do you even have an open house if some of your potential students don't even know that they have been accepted" popped in my mind but who knows what do these people think.

    Anyway, I will wait.

So, the next time an applicant calls any admissions office, it might be better to do the following :

    1) Do not ask about your admissions decision directly ... cause you will probably not get the right answer ... maybe a vague answer ... such as decisions are still being made ... etc...

    2) Instead, ask them about the Open Day and when it has been scheduled ... they will tell you the date (hopefully) ... and from this information you can indirectly infer whether or not you will receive an admit or reject :)

(if the open house date is very close to the date you called ... and you have not received any notification from the office till then ... then you will probably get rejected)

(if the open house date is a few weeks from the date you called .. you might have chance)

    Just a thought ... :)

  3. The site has been updated....and it now includes EE.....this doesn't look good....no i lost hope

    Exactly,

Also if you see the results sections then you will notice that results for the Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Computer Science, etc have been posted during mid February. That includes both admissions and rejections. However, I cannot see neither admissions nor rejections for EE except from one admission for Fall 2011. So I am pretty sure that nothing has been finalized yet. At least I hope so.

Therefore, monitoring that website is our best bet right now.

Hope that everything will turn out okay for everyone!

  4. Congratulations! I know CMU is a very good school in EE. However, if you are going into controls I think that they are not as good as the other top tier schools. I know that their robotics program is one of the best in the nation, if not the world. So CMU is a very good school. I wouldn't worry in your case!

    Once again, congratulations.

i got rejected but accepted by CMU... is CMU good school?

Sure, hope is all we got.

However, the website also mentions "More to come" ... they might add the other SEAS branches ... in the next few days ... before the 4th of March.

Also, Harvard SEAS does include EE (electrical eng.), they will have to include it.

Need to monitor that website. :)

    Area Specific Activities

  6. If you go to http://openhouse.seas.harvard.edu/ it seems that there are no events for the EE Department. I can only see events for the Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, and Environmental Sciences and Engineering Departments.

My point is that there might still be hope!!!

HArvard SEAS open house is on March 4th according to the following site.

    http://www.seas.harv...open-house/view

Something looks fishy ... cause it is already March 1st today :-(

  7. Well I am not sure about that....we will just have to wait and hope for the better....

    Thanks for the info.

Does a letter from the grad. office usually mean a rejection? ..... I am new to this system. :-(

I thought that acceptances usually come in the form of phone calls / interviews or via e-mail.

  8. I called on Friday and they told me that they plan to send out decisions this week....

Has anyone heard from Berkeley in the past two weeks? Does anyone know through communication with a faculty or admission office when we should be expecting to hear from them?

  9. They said that it is not possible to let me know where my application is standing at present and that once they have the decisions they will let us know..... that's all they said.....

I see.... From reading threads on here and CC my understanding is that there is usually a one week delay from when the decisions are made and put on your file to when official notifications come out. So based on what you have been told the decisions should be made by now, which then begs the question how come the person you talked to didn't tell you the decision on your application? What did s/he say when you asked if they can tell you the decision on your application? not yet decided?!!

  10. Has anyone tried calling/emailing Berkeley EECS? Or does anyone know from correspondence with a POI when the notifications will be sent out? Thanks.

I actually called this morning and asked them when do they plan to send out decisions and they told me next week.
