  1. I decided on UT. They have more active researches in the field I am interested in. Plus, I think living in Austin will be a lot more fun than living in College Station, not that there is anything wrong with CS. I heard finding RA and TA is not that difficult for Pet.E programs. If you don't get a RA in the fall, you'll probably be able to get one in the spring. Talk to other grad students! I found that most useful in making my decision.
  2. Hi! I decided on UT last week. I am right now in an undergraduate program. So, no work experience, but I have a variety of research experience ranging from PetE research to optical physics research. I have Q800/V700/W4.0 GRE and 3.5 GPA. From what I heard, UT hasn't reviewed all the files, so you'll probably hear from them soon. Good luck!

  3. The fellowship basically covers the first-year tuition and fees with the idea that I will get some form of assistantship in subsequent years. But, I'm also hoping to get some RA/TA for this year. Gonna fly to Austin in two days and try to convince some profs to give me more money. haha Did they get back to you about funding? Are you set on TAMU?
  4. Yay! I was just offered a fellowship at UT Austin!
  5. Just curious - on what basis do you say that? Did you talk to any of the students or anyone in the oil industry?
  6. Yes, TAMU gave me research assistantship that covers stipend, tuition, insurance and other academic fees. Pretty good deal considering I'm in a MS program. I've contacted two current students and they said, usually we have to find our own funding by talking to professors (for MS student). If you're a PhD student, you'll probably get a similar, if not better, offer to what I got. I got my notification of funding via email just last week (it came with the acceptance letter from the department), so I'm sure you'll hear back sometime soon too. As for UT, I haven't gotten anything back about funding. Hopefully, I'll hear about it soon so that I can make my decision by April 8th... Thanks for your input!
  7. I've been accepted to both and cannot really make up my mind where I want to go. So, I was wondering if other people could share their stories of how they came to choose one program versus another. I want to study gas injection or CO2 sequestration. After getting my degree, I want to work for a large oil company. Which school, do you think, will better prepare me for that? Also, feel free to share your own difficulties making your decision!!
  8. I heard bad news from Joanna... Oh well, I have UT Austin and Texas A&M to choose from.
  9. Hi!!! I'm also waiting for their decision... it's killing me..... I still haven't heard back from Stanford, UT Austin, and MIT.... (got accepted at TAMU Pet.E. and Princeton Chem E. though). Did you guys hear back from UT Austin by any chance?
