  1. Hey all- My family (wife and 2 sons 5/3) is being dragged along to grad school at Penn State Sociology this fall. We're looking at 2 possible homes, both tiny, but one in Park Forest and one in Boalsburg. Besides the obvious that Boalsburg is farther from campus, does anyone know what the sense of community is like for families with kids in either or both of those? We're under a time crunch because I was admitted late and are hoping to make a decision over the weekend so we don't end up losing out on both, given the crazy rental market there. Thanks.
  2. I just got a rejection email today. I think they probably were keeping a few of us on hold just in case without expecting the chance that they needed us to be high enough to pay for the visit. Oh well.
  3. Time for a social media sabbath. Blessings and peace until at least March 14.

  4. I second that inquiry.
  5. Not technically accepted but in #1 spot on wait-list for Penn State as of 2/28. They had enough high-quality applicants they expanded the original acceptance pool, but I think they've already notified everyone in that batch. But I'll be at the recruiting weekend March 26-28 and they said that at least 1 has always gotten in from the wait-list. I already got a no from Princeton and am still waiting to hear from UNC Chapel Hill and Duke. I'm assuming CH is a no, since they've already had both admissions and their weekend, but has anyone else heard from Duke? In case anyone's interested for comparison, my areas are quantitative methodology and soc of religion. I've already got an M.A. in theology and have spent a couple years out working. Undergrad GPA: 3.63 Soc: 3.78 (B.S. with thesis) Grad GPA: 3.81 with non-soc thesis Q: 800 V: 680 AW: 4.5
