  1. I agree with the above poster. It might be worth considering if this degree at this time and at this school will pay itself back, or if you'll be mortgaging your future for it. I was in a situation like yours before and ended up transferring schools, which was the best decision I could've made. But I have a few other suggestions to add: transfer schools after a year, see if there are any paid TA or admin positions available, consider working PT while in school, rent a shared room or a place further away, wait and apply again next year to more schools in cheaper cities, apply for outside scholarships, and consider the government loan forgiveness program for 10 years of non-profit work. Whatever you chose, I hope it works out for you.
  2. This is the info I got from Vanderbilt for their class entering Fall 2009. Vandy has the highest stats by far of any school I've seen. While it's obviously possible to be at the lower end and still gain admittance, I think your chances are much better if you are above their averages. I agree with other posters though that stats are not everything. Sorry if this is hard to read. I can't get the formatting to stick. Degree GPA (highest/lowest) GRE (highest/lowest) Audiology (AUD) 3.8 (4/3.4) 1234 (1450/970) Ph.D. in audiology (Graduate School) 3.7 (4/3.1) 1246 (1440/1050) Ph.D. in SLP (Graduate School) 3.9 (4/3.4) 1284 (1510/990) Speech-Language-Pathology (MS) 3.9 (4/3.4) 1247 (1460/1010)
  3. Hi everyone, Is anyone else here considering attending University of Washington? Have you been able to visit the school or heard anything about financial aid? I won't be able to visit the school by April 15th so I won't be able to make a good informed decision. I'd like to hear what other people think of the school and program. I also read that students need a car starting fall quarter of their first year. I really don't want to have to buy a car in addition to paying for moving expenses and tuition. I thought first-year placements were all at the in-house clinic anyways. Does anyone know if this is true?
  4. Hi all, I thought I'd just put out there that I'm familiar with Northwestern's program. There hasn't been much talk about the program on here, but you can message me if you have questions about it.
  5. I see now, that makes sense. I guess it really is up in the air.
  6. Congrats to everyone who made it in! If they're right about 630+ applicants this year, then you really did well to gain admission. I wouldn't worry if you don't have an admission box. Several people have stated that Emerson is only half through reviewing applications, so if you don't have the admission box, that likely means they just haven't reviewed your application yet. I have the box but when I click on it, it says a decision is not available at this time. I'm trying to take that as meaning they added the tab to prepare to post my decision and it just needs updating, not as any sign of admission or rejection.
  7. Hi, I just logged onto my Emerson account today and saw the newly added "Admissions decision" tab. I know Emerson does a type of rolling admissions, so I was wondering if this tab was added to everyone's application or just mine, meaning that my decision is coming soon. The tab says that admissions decisions are available online seven or less days after the decision has been made and submitted to the graduate school. It's such a minor thing to be wondering about this tab, but I'm like everyone else on here trying to sit patiently while dying internally to hear results. Good luck to everyone!
