Well, the department chair sent me an official-looking PDF complete with financial information, but when I read it closely, I realized they were telling me that approval from the graduate division was pending, etc. It did say to let them know my decision in writing ASAP so I'm not sure if they use an online system. It's a little confusing!
I would guess that a lot of it has to do with their computer systems. University computers (the kind the staff use, not the kind in the computer lab) are often really outdated. It's also down to numbers: it takes longer to enter in all the many rejections than the few acceptances.
Hey y'all,
So I lucked out and was admitted to my top choice school--but the offer is still technically "unofficial," as in I've only heard from the department, not the grad school at large. I told them I needed time to think it over, but I know I'm ready to accept. Do I need to wait for the official offer, or can I just accept now?
