  1. Congrats to everyone that got an acceptance! I just checked my email and I found a letter from Princeton... another rejection. I'd be really bummed if I didn't have anywhere to go in september and I'm still waiting to hear from Rutgers. Hopefully the following days will hold good news for everyone.
  2. Well Penn got back to me today via e-mail... rejected.
  3. None of my schools have contacted me yet (I've only applied to three), but I'll definitely post something when they do... Keep in mind that I'm a tri-state area girl, so the programs are all located in PA and NJ. Lets hope that we hear from some programs soon. I've been checking my e-mail every five minutes or so and to be honest my spirits are really low... My anthro advisor left a message for me today and she basicly said that Penn is "a big pond with many big fish" and that I should consider this before I choose to go there... Now I ask you, what kind of advice is this?????? I don't know if I'm even going to get in and shes already telling me to reconsider going there???? And why now? She was very supportive when I decided to apply to the program back in November. I wonder what prompted her to tell me this? She's a Penn grad, so I wonder if she's heard anything. Like I don't have enough on my mind already. Perhaps, it's time for me to try the healing powers of a turkey sandwich...
  4. Hi Everyone, I don't know about Harvard and Yale, but Penn sent me an email stating that they will send out notifications by March 15th. Lets hope that the other programs follow suit.
  5. This waiting is driving me crazy. I had a dream last night that I was rejected by the program that I most want to go to- namely, Penn. (It's a stones throw from my house.) I must say that it is difficult not to think about what the admissions committees are up to. From what I've been reading, it seems like many of the humanities/social science programs have already made up their minds, but what's going on with anthropology programs? Hopefully, we'll start to hear from Anthro programs soon... Have a great weekend everyone and, if you haven't heard anything, keep your chin up- There is always next week.
  6. Congratulations barry!!! That is great news.
  7. Hi Zygo, Yes, it's a new week. Hopefully, we'll all get some good news over the next few days!!
  8. Hi everyone, I'm still waiting to hear about the anthro programs that I applied to and from what I've been reading (or not reading) lately on the blogs, it sounds like the programs haven't made decisions yet- which gives me hope. However, I did receive an acceptance letter from another doctorate program that is not anthropology but close. The program offered me five years of funding with a small living stipend and I feel so lucky to have been offered this opportunity (even though, my first choice is an anthropology program). However, I worry about possibly taking it because the stipend is too small to cover my living expenses in the area. I was wondering if any of you could give me advice. Do any of you know if you can get student loans to cover the rest of your living expenses? Is this a good idea? I'm an older student and the economy is pretty bad near the school, so money issues are very much on my mind and I thought that I would ask to see what all of you thought. I have a lot of time on my hands while waiting and I thought that I'd do some planning in the meantime. Thanks.
  9. Hi everyone, This is my first post on the thread, but I've been checking in everyday... sometimes quite a few times a day. I'm waiting to hear from grad programs too and I agree the weekend is going to be hard. I've only applied to three anthropology grad programs and I'm starting to worry that I should have sent out a few more apps. Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself and to thank everyone for their posts- it's good to know that I'm not the only one checking my e-mail every fifteen minutes. Hopefully, we'll hear from them soon.
