  1. alternate well I'll try to stay positive although it seems like few people get off the alternate list for South Africa
  2. Does anybody know if the letters are sent first class or priority? priority is 3 to 5 days and first class is up to 7 days. also I re-read the email that they sent finalist in January and it says: "If you are selected for an award, you will receive notification of your status from the FSB. If you are named an alternate or are not selected, you will be notified by IIE." Isn't Jermaine Jones an IIE Program Manager? Idk if we should be looking forward to mail from him after all. Where is FSB located?
  3. Good luck!

  5. WONDERFUL NEWS SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA FINALISTS! I just got off the phone with Jermaine Jones. He said he mailed out the "Lion's Share" of letters yesterday afternoon. So we can expect our letters as early as this weekend! Keep in mind he said they mailed out MOST, so some of us might still have a little more of a wait. Now we can set up shop near the mailbox: chair? check glass of wine? check stress ball? check
  6. and I know someone who is planning to turn down their fulbright to Korea so good luck to you
  7. Even if it was sent today, there's a good chance that you wouldn't get it until Monday. Doesn't it take about 3 days?
  8. Crimson I'm with you. I'm starting to think it not an accident that the spreadsheet keeps getting messed up. Last year's group didn't have such drastic issues with their list. How can someone "accidently" erase the whole name column and re-arrange notification statuses? They've got nothing better to do I guess
  9. I can call/email him on Thursday afternoon.
  10. Boooo that means Friday. Which means we won't get it until Tuesday.
  11. Hey All, Thought I would post the schedule for the orientations in DC again. http://fulbright.state.gov/orientation
  12. Also does he mean ETAs and Full Grants (since it seems like they send them out at different times) and by "towards the end of the week" does he mean Thursday?
  13. Can you say scarystress 5 times fast?!! I knew it! What did I tell you FryGuy? Definitely around the 18th. Time to bug out lol
  14. Funny story. I forgot that I had requested permission to view the spreadsheet, so when I opened my email and saw a message with the subject line "Fulbright Resources and Notification Statuses", my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. It's silly really because I know our notifications aren't coming via email. Really. This can't be good for our health. When I go get my physical, I'm sure my blood pressure will be through the roof... and it will be iie's fault. lol
  15. That would be nice but I doubt we will. This time last year the letters were already being mailed out. Last year by April 1st when finalists contacted him, Jermaine told them the letters would be sent out soon and this year he doesn't seem to have a clue :/ I'm expecting to hear back around the 18th or so.
  16. Hey FryGuy. I don't know if you saw my earlier post, but I called him yesterday and got the same generic response... Based on previous years, he expects that we should hear back within the next few weeks. :/
  17. Sub-Saharan Africa: Called Jermaine Jones today and got the generic response. He said judging by previous years he expects we should hear back in the next "several" !??! weeks. On another note, I was looking over the spreadsheet from last year and it looks like no one on the list who made alternate in SSA was upgraded to principal :/
  18. accidently erased my earlier post! lol Found the schedule for the orientations this year. If you haven't heard back yet or found out that you're an alternate, you should still keep these dates in mind. http://fulbright.state.gov/orientation
  19. Fryguy: What did you ask her? It still seems a bit on the cryptic side lol.
  20. What in God's Green Earth?!!! How could they have absolutely no information? Not even about where they are in the selection process? I'd like to know if the applications are still with the south african committee or if they are back in the US for final screening...

  22. ReadtoWin I completely identify with your level of excitement and passion for the fulbright fellowship. Actually I just finished reading the 2010-2011 fulbright orientation handbook haha. Obsessed much? But try to focus on other things to take your mind off of the angst. To be honest, coming on this forum might not be that helpful. The amount of stress and anxiety from our fellow finalists can only make matters worst. I know this website certainly stresses me the hell out. even still I can't stop myself. sigh
  23. I'd like to travel around a bit. I wrote I wanted to go to 3 different cities and although I have contacts in each of those places, I wonder if that counts against me. I know they like for people to be outside of the major cities but do they also prefer for people to stay in one place?
  24. hey fryguy where in SA are you looking to go?
  25. Hi Teej T, Nope we haven't heard anything back yet. Nakasa wrote to the representative for sub-saharan africa and all he said was we should hear back sometime in April :/
