I e-mailed one of the program assistants listed on the website, Colin: http://www.ssrc.org/staff/bradley-colin/

Hi all. I also got rejected. This was my second time applying. The good news is I got other funding. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, though: last year I asked the SSRC folks if they had any feedback I could look at since I was preparing a new application, and they sent me a document with all of the reviewers' comments. As far as I know, they do not send you this feedback otherwise, but don't seem to have any restrictions on giving it to you. I actually found the feedback from SSRC some of the most helpful and constructive feedback I received from any agency. So, especially if you are reapplying, and even if you're not, shoot them an e-mail. Good luck to all those still in the running and to those waiting to hear back from other applications! Hang in there!

Thanks for the info. Ugh, waiting is easy when you have no idea when you'll hear anything, but when it's imminent, it's hard to stay patient. I hope the grant gods will soon shower copious research dollars on all waiting to hear form NSF and all those applying for other upcoming deadlines!
-
Still pending for me, as well. Last time I applied, I didn't get my rejection for a few weeks after classmates of mine had gotten their rejections. I think they must have a multi-step process for final awards. That, or they just send out decisions as quickly as they can rather than all at once. Anyone else hear anything?
-
We have one more day to *not* hear this week...I'm starting to think it'll be May.
-
Thanks, ginger. It's too bad they can't just let everyone know at the same time, but I assume this is so that they can inform as many people as early as they can. Still, it's rough to hang in the unknown. Hopefully not too much longer so that all waiting can make plans either way.

Another week of "pending" status and no contact for me. Some friends have told me no news is good news, but I can't imagine they are funding everyone they haven't contacted, are they?
-
Broadly, the state and urban space in east Africa. You?

Anyone else who applied in January in Cultural Anthro who is still in limbo? The wait is terrible...
-
Let's e-mail them to say:
-
Sorry about being declined, medler. I hope the positive and helpful comments mean you will have an easy time revising, if that's your plan! Considering they have contacted a lot of folks already, I'm hoping that they will send the remainder next week. Seems odd that they would continue to stagger it out as the weeks go on. I would think they must have reached their final decisions if they could have contacted a lot of people already.
-
Does anyone know if they contacted everyone at once in the past? Or is it staggered like NSF? And e-mail like they did for those who passed the the first stage, I'm guessing? My guess is Wednesday next week...
-
I'm sure I'm not the first person to point this out, but the window for making revisions to resubmit by May 1st is quite narrow, isn't it? It'll be less than 3 weeks if they send out decisions any later than tomorrow.
-
I don't know, but I hope so! Good luck to those still waiting to hear! I should say, not the November deadline, but the January one. I'm mixing up WG and SSRC with NSF.
-
Anyone know if a program officer switch on Fastlane means anything? I applied for the November deadline. It just shows me as "pending."

Michigan, Joint PhD program in History and Anthropology

Last year, someone posted they got a rejection letter on March 27th. I'm thinking they're on the same timeline this year. -
Is everyone else still waiting to hear from Columbia and Michigan Anthro/History? I know both announced really, really late last year. My online status form for Columbia was finally showing that they received all my application materials today. Did they really just get them all together? I have to imagine there was just a lag in putting that stuff up online. I have another offer, so it wouldn't break my heart if these were both rejections, but it'd be nice to know already. Anyone else hear anything about these two?
-
Heard a while back from my POI at Columbia that he'd be happy to advise me. Anyone have an opinion on whether this means anything? He's very, very well known and also has a joint appointment, so on the one hand, I feel like he may have some pull, but on the other don't know if he's that involved in the day-to-day decisions at the school.
