Has Anybody Heard from Rice Univ. CS PhD program?

So they have sent out all the offers? I've already accepted the offer provided by GaTech since I guess I've already been rejected by them. -
I also favour UMD PHD. UMD is a top cs school, quite worth going. A MS degree does not necessarily increase the chance for you to get into the top 4. As I know, it's even very hard for a Stanford MS student to stay and continue a PhD degree in Stanford. Some MS programs are course based, aiming preparing you for the future job seeking. Some MS programs are thesis based, which may focus more on research, and help you in the future application of PhD. I don't know what the UCSD MS program is like, but they seem to admit quite a few people, which means it might be difficult to find an advisor to work with. Also, the fianance of UC is not that good, I don't think you can get some financial aid for the MS program.

It's very hard to say when an applicant can get off a waitlist. I've heard that someone didn't get off the waitlist of MIT util some time after 4.15 before . I'm also on the waitlist of the PhD track of UIUC. And I contatcted them, there seems no specific time. I think we can only make a cafeful plan, rank our preferences for the schools and decide what we would do if we recieve the results. It's useless to guess when the waitlist will turn into an offer or a rejection. As for UMich, I believe they haven't sent most of their offers since we can see a lot of offers in April last year. As for the other schools, I don't know much. BTW, I have declined my offer from UCI, hope this would help.

Thanks for info. I contacted them, they told me no decision has been made to my file. It seems that I'm wait listed.

I noticed the mass of rejections. But UIUC seems to review files by divisions. I wonder whether the SE\PL group has sent out all their decisions.

Hi, guys. I applied for the Ph.D program in cs of UIUC. And I was informed that no decisions had been made to application. My area is PL and SE. I wonder whether I'm on the waiting list, or they just haven't sent out the rejections of this area.
