I just got off the phone with Jonathan Akeley and found out I got off the waitlist for New Zealand! Apparently the state department found more money which is totally shocking to me considering the state of the U.S. budget. I am very excited and confused, since I had given up and had moved on to other plans for the future. So I guess don't give up hope as there are definitely other east asian applicants who will be in the same boat as me.

Received an alternate letter today for New Zealand. Pretty bummed, especially since it means more waiting. If there are 10 spots, up to 20 people could have been finalists. I am wondering how many are alternated versus rejected. Also, on the New Zealand Fulbright website it says that 12 people were chosen for awards in 2010, even though there were only 10 spots listed on the Fulbright website. So hopefully that means 2 alternates were offered spots after more funding came through. I'm hoping that will happen again, but it probably won't due to the recent turn American politics has taken.

Excellent news for New Zealand applicants! I emailed Jonathan Akeley this morning and he replied below. I really don't understand why everything has to be so secretive - earlier this week? Can't he specify a day? Oh well, hopefully it will come in the mail today. Someone messed up the spreadsheet somehow where the columns aren't sorting without bring the appropriate informations from the other rows with them. It says I applied to France, which is definitely not true. CrimsonEngineer, can you save us from our own foolishness?
