  1. Sounds about right. After I spoke to someone they seem REALLY disorganized; I was kind of surprised. I understand that everyone is underfunded but at least get your shit together. It pushed UIUC over the top for me and it looks like I'll be headed back there instead.

Yeah, it's really frustrating. It seems that no one knows what is going on! I don't understand how there is no financial aid :( UMD is the only school I applied for because I really like their e-government concentration. I'm not sure what I will do now. Some part of me is still hoping I'll be able to get some sort of aid via ALA scholarships.

Good luckto you Laure and everyone wherever you decide to go! Hopefully UMD gets its act together!

  2. Thanks guys!

Heather, I do plan to attend in the fall if I do get that official notification. As far as tuition goes, (yikes!) I plan to go very part time the first year. After a year, hopefully they'll grant me residency. It's pretty crazy how expensive things are, but hopefully I'm getting more for my money and a better education out there than I would here in California.

Apparently it's actually rather difficult to establish residency...

    In-state Status

To qualify for in-state tuition, a student must demonstrate that, for at least twelve (12)consecutive months immediately prior to and including the last date available to register for courses in the semester/term for which the student seeks in-state tuition status, the student had the continuous intent to:

    1. 1. Make Maryland his or her permanent home; and
      2. Abandon his or her former home state; and
      3. Reside in Maryland indefinitely; and
      4. Reside in Maryland primarily for a purpose other than that of attending an educational institution in Maryland.
Either of the following circumstances raises a presumption that the student is residing in the State of Maryland primarily for the purpose of attending an educational institution and therefore, does not qualify for in-state status under this policy:

    1. 1. A student is attending school or living outside Maryland at the time of application for admission to a USM institution, or
      2. A student is Financially Dependent on a person who is not a resident of Maryland.

I don't know how I'm going to pay for UMD out of state without any financial assistance. Any ideas? :)
