Got an HM during first year of grad school. Revised essays, and added parts to strengthen essays according to reviewer comments. Got nothing this time as 2nd year (last year eligible) I think the criteria is more rigorous for 2nd year students and of course more competitive as you need to prove how productive you are during your first year.

Anyone else refreshing this thread?

I also had a dream that the results were released Saturday night. It was actually a nightmare. Read the reviewer comments and got another HM

This was last year's notice before they released the results around 1-2am: 04/04/11 - GRFP/FastLane will be unavailable from 11:00PM ET Monday, April 4th - 5:00AM ET Tuesday, April 5th for scheduled maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience. Discuss.

I re-read the reviewer comments I got last year (I received an HM). DAMN so close I could taste it. But probably won't even get an HM this year

Wow, that's terrible. Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, I think the NSF makes it pretty clear on their website, the program solicitation and in their reference reminder emails that no exceptions can be made. This is a line from the reminder emails: "Reference letters cannot be accepted after the deadline under any circumstances" But perhaps some people have had luck under extreme conditions. Hopefully you can apply next year.

Thanks gang, that sounds reasonable. Looks like I got screwed by the 3rd reviewer and the 4th wasn't much better...darn! EDIT: So if your application goes to the third reviewer, it means that you are close to getting an award? And if the third reviewer gave similar ratings, in my case a third VG/E, then I would have gotten an award? Just wondering since I am planning for next year

I received an honorable mention. But I received 4 reviews, did anyone else get 4 reviews? Does anyone have an idea why? Interesting... VG/E VG/E G/VG VG/VG

Have there ever been cases of HMs bumped up and given an award if for some reason some people decline or something?

I'm curious about it too, got the HM as well EDIT: I wonder how many HM they offer and what criteria gets you the HM? Does it mean you were 98.9% there? I wish I was just flat our rejected, now I have some hope left in me after this agonizing journey and may try again next year...

I heard from someone last year that the names were posted on fastlane BEFORE email notifications were sent out. Quite sometime after too it seems. So plan on refreshing the website and searching for your name starting around 12 AM EST tonight.

I'm dying with anticipation and anxiety! I wish I could watch a movie with all my fellow NSF obsessed people tonight until the results are posted and we can all check together and go nuts.

Hope for the results to be released soon is no longer necessary. Based on the pattern from previous years, we are now hoping for a positive outcome (WIN) when we check Fastlane after maintenance early Tuesday morning.

So just to confirm, this happens every year around the time it is expected for the results to be released? Fastlane goes down for maintenance --> results posted around 1 AM?

I deleted that post in order to keep people optimistic but at this point, the decision has been made, we'll find out soon enough!
