  1. Gave up last night and went to bed...woke up early for a departmental review session and Honorable Mention again... Congrats to all HM and awardees!
  2. Last year it was about 2:00AM if I remember correctly.
  3. I'm inclined to agree - I can imagine the people at NSF browsing these forums and pitying we lowly grad students.
  4. It came in the middle of the night last year - around 2:00AM. Fastlane was all jammed up but you basically just plugged in your name in the search and waited, and it would eventually come up if you got either HM or an award. My email didn't come until about 3:00AM.
  5. I haven't dreamed about the results yet - I've been buried under a pile of other small grant applications - but I'm sure it's not long in coming. I also just found out some of my family is visiting during the timespan NSF is likely to announce the GRFPs, so on the bright side they can take me out to dinner to A.) drown my sorrows again (more likely) or B. ) celebrate.
  6. I've only applied the past two years (neither of which required or even allowed GRE scores) but you used to be able to put them into your application if you wanted to. I don't think it was ever required, per se. If someone who applied before the 2010-2011 round is still around they can give you a more definite answer.
  7. Agreed, I read somewhere that if the scores they give us are too far apart, they have to re-discuss your application to make sure you're not being discriminated against or something.
  8. I got an Honorable Mention with E/G, VG/G, and VG/VG. My reviewers wanted more specific examples of how I would do educational outreach, but otherwise thought I was well-prepared.
  9. Everybody gets at least two reviews. After two reviews, you are ranked, and the top tier of applications, as well as any applications with scores that are very different, are reviewed by a third person. If you have two reviews it just means your application didn't get to that third read part. I think there's a post earlier in this thread (like somewhere in the page 20s) that outlines it more specifically if you'd like greater detail.
  10. Update: Just searched my name, and it says I got an Honorable Mention. Like others have said, nothing pops up on my account other than "Welcome Applicant." 'Gratz to everyone who got something, especially you Awardees.
  11. My page just says applicant when I log in, so I guess I'm a reject. Oh well, at least I have a Fellowship from my school.
  12. Representing NJ here! Gotta love the Garden State. As for school, representing KY. I wish we could see a map of where IP addresses are accessing from.
  13. OMG. I just checked this during my lunch and now I can't think about anything else. I guess I know what I'll be doing all night long (refreshing fastlane/email). Good luck to everyone! I wish we could all get great news!
  14. I don't know about you all, but I'd feel like I was one of those sore thumbs for sure!
  15. [quote name=hello! ' timestamp='1301872059' post='237650] I agree with your general point! Maybe this is an indication of the subjectiveness of this review process? To me, it seems that the definition of "transformational" could differ from person to person.
  16. I couldn't agree more. Without hope, in a way, wouldn't all of what we in science do be pointless? We hope to make the world a better place with what we find, even if, in the end, only three other people in the world care a whit about our work. EDIT: Also, to those of you working on the Excel file...more evidence for a Monday announcement?
  17. I feel like I'm in the same boat as you. Luckily I have funding even if I don't get this, though. *BUT* until they announce it, we all have at least a shot! And to us, I say GOOD LUCK!
  18. Apologies. Please continue fantasizing. In fact, may I join you?
  19. It's going to be a long however-many-days-until-they-announce-it.
  20. I think they were maybe seeing this: http://www.nsf.gov/p...073.jsp?org=DUE It quotes that whatever this opportunity is, this Nordic award thing is being announced on 4/4. Edit: Whoops, sorry jer4. Didn't see your post before I searched myself.
  21. I think it's going to be tough for everyone who doesn't get HM or an Award to break it to everyone. I know all my friends (who are not applying) are like "Oh, you're so smart/accomplished/etc you'll totally get it!" So...what happens if I don't?
  22. The worst thing for me is that they *MUST* know who's getting it by now. Or at least most of the list. And they also must know that we're going absolutely bonkers waiting to hear back.
  23. Yeah and how many people that apply for this are "normal people" LOL! I don't know about everyone else, but as it gets closer, I've been waking up multiple times during the night...and of course I HAVE to check my email.
  24. I'm betting with April 5, but I'm thinking it'll be at at an odd hour like 5 AM EST.
