I predict this forum will explode with posts on Friday, since then it will officially be "any day now." A fact that I am desperately trying to ignore...

i also made a specific part addressing broader impacts in my research proposal, mostly focusing on how my research animal (sawflies) are charasmatic animals that could be used well in a classroom to teach aspects of natural selection...yadda yadda. I have a background in education (change of career kind of thing in the middle of college), so I focused a lot on bringing undergraduates (from all walks of life) into my lab, going to classrooms, etc. As for the bold/italicized thing, I agree that it seems a little over the top...but who knows what gives people the advantage!

From what I've read, I agree. It seems to have at least something to do with who you get as a reviewer. If you get lucky and get folks who love your proposal, you're golden. But if you get someone that, for whatever reason, hates your project, you're out of luck. Here's hoping they had really nice reviewers this year!

From what I've seen, awarded Fellowships are proportional to the number of people who applied, except for Engineering and I think Computer Science, because they give out additional awards for Women in those areas.

This is my first year applying, and I applied in Evolutionary Biology.

Totally know how you feel. I haven't dreamed about the NSF *yet* but I'm sure it's coming... I'm just trying to bury myself in a pile of journal articles and hoping it keeps my mind clear-ish.

This is likely true...UGHHHH! The closer it gets, the more I just want to know!

Today was the first day I'd seen the 2011 default, but sometimes I doubt my sanity, so it could have been there for longer. I wish and don't wish it comes soon.... My productivity is suffering greatly ever since I realized it's *almost* April.

TORTURE...when you click on the "Offered Awards" from fastlane now, it shows "2011 offered award list" by default. Of course there's nothing else listed under it but...ARGH!
