  1. Well that gives me peace. I have a week left to hand it in, if I send it out tomorrow it will reach nyc by monday. I mean really the test just tells you whether you need to take malaria pills or not, which most do anyways.
  2. G6DP Rant: Okay so can anyone tell me why this test in significant? It is a chromosomal test that checks to see if you have a deficiency and if you have this deficiency than you are better protected against malaria. If you do not have this deficiency you are more prone to getting malaria. Most people do not have this deficiency so why does it matter if this test is done or not?! Anyways, anyone is South East Asia getting this test done? I was away when I received the Fulbright and had my examination done then as well, only thing that is blank is the G6PD which takes 3 to 5 days at a lab. Debating on leaving it blank since it does not seem significant at all. What does everyone else think?
  3. I am down for this. I am wondering how limited my travel to other countries with be though. Fulbright said the program gives you 2 weeks in between semesters, however I really wanted to do weekend trips. I guess I will figure it out once I get over there. A group should definitely be made for SE Asia though. Who wants to volunteer to make it?
  4. For everyone who received a grant/eta, what do you plan on packing to take with you? Especially for those going to Asian countries where they might not have the same things that we can buy here. Also for ETA's when we go out to teach, can we wear casual clothing or more on the professional side? I dont know if any of you would know the answers to any of these questions. P.S. I haven't been keeping up with the message board, are there any other Vietnam ETAs out there? If so send me a message
  5. Does anyone have an idea of what the time frame is for letters going out once the country has made the decision and has sent them back to the U.S.? I heard from someone who is in my country now that the decision was made a couple of weeks ago in Vietnam and that they have sent them back to the U.S. to be finalized.
  6. I have also tried calling and emailing him twice over the last two weeks. Nothing still. It's annoying.
  7. No, that was me. And he never did reply. I am sure he is probably really busy right now, but still.
  8. Chest x-ray? This is the first time that I am hearing that we need this. Does anyone else need a chest x-ray? Or is it just South America??
  9. Are you in Brooklyn? There has to be a clinic somewhere in NYC where they can give you a physical for $60 or less. Lab work for the blood and urine test though could be a problem though. Not sure if you have transportation, but my doctor referred me to this place: http://www.passporthealthusa.com/new-jersey/ for my vaccines. She said they work with you financial situation. Haven't had time to really research this place yet though, but it's worth a try.
  10. I called him and left him a voice mail today so hopefully I will hear from him soon. Some how I feel that we have the least helpful of the IIEs .
  11. Well I am glad I am not the only one, I am beginning to become paranoid over it.
  12. Does anyone else have Jonathan Akeley (South Asia and Pacific) for an IIE? He hasn't returned any of my emails that I sent him in the past week, and I was wondering if anyone else had trouble getting in contact with him too.
  13. Does anyone know how much your GPA is weighted in the final selection?
  14. mthedoor: Stay in touch with me if you and I both receive grants. I would like to visit Thailand while I am away and you would be more than welcome to visit Vietnam and stay with me as well.
  15. Yes, that is him. Maybe I will try resending the email tonight, I asked him what kind of medical information is needed because I am leaving the country for a month and want to make sure that I have everything prepare just in case. Where have you applied to and have you heard any news yet?
  16. I sent an email to the IIE for East Asia and the Pacific last week and have still not heard back from him. I don't know if I should take this as a good or bad sign? Do you think I should try getting in touch with him over the phone?
  17. Congrats! You have been selected to receive the the grant, you just need to do some paperwork that they send you. Sounds like Southeast Asia will be announcing in the next couple of weeks. I hope I hear soon!
  18. Anyone apply for Vietnam? Also for those of you who have already received their grants, what medical information did you need to send in? I am leaving the country in a week for a month and want to make sure I get everything done at the doctor before hand.
