They are very helpful and thanks for correcting me. there is another query that is troubling me , though a little off the mark for the current thread . i was already doing a phd in my home country and then i de registered from it for a while to pause my thesis writing and research better opportunities in the US. I know for sure that I cannot apply for another phd in english if I already have one in the same subject ( many school websites mention that) , but what if i wish to take up a new field - something like film/media ? Should it be a problem ? am asking coz i am not too sure if humanities departments are generally under financial crunches nowadays and letting someone do a double phd ( even in a different discipline ) is tough. could you please send me some feedback . thanks .

want to apply for 2013 Fall English PhD . I am not quiet sure if US News is the best dependable source regarding the rankings as per English programs in the US. I am an international student and would prefer an English program that offers good funding and multidisciplinary opportunities. If the readers give me a top ten kinda snapshot , I will be very thankful.

How is this program ? Supremely competitive everyone says . But where does it figure in the job market ? Some feedback will be helpful.

Thanks for your response...I much appreciate it. To clarify myself further - It is actually a long cherished desire of mine to do a PhD in the US . I had to join PhD under some urgent circumstances in India , but now after coming here , I don't feel I've learnt much . If I join a PhD here in the same subject, can I transfer credits (I have completed my coursework and comps) and reduce the duration of the program ? Do the top tier schools allow you to do that ?

Hi, I am already doing a PhD in my home country and came to a semi ivy university in the US on a short term fellowship which ends this June. I tried my luck at some "dream" grad programs , but received rejection from all schools. I am planning to reapply for Fall 2012. I am wondering whether to submit my PhD back home and apply to some program with different specialization or stick to my subject , gather some more research experience , (but not submit the PhD back home) and apply to the same programs (and some more) in US again . I will loose out on last 3 yrs. work , but I am okay with it. Which one will be helpful for my admission ? I am bit confused and some help will be appreciated.
