lolchem: Top-notch Schools that aren't Berkeley, MIT, Caltech, Harvard, or Stanford: 1.) Northwestern 1.) WUSTL Very Good Schools 2.) Michigan 2.) UCLA Pretty Good Schools: 3.) Washington 4.) USC Of course, there are excellent people at all these schools, so it's just as important to "rank" prospective advisers.
