  1. A comment about UCSD: I've heard that the funding only appears generous, but the cost of living is so ridiculous that you're living hand to mouth. I got one one place, Wisconsin, and my wife got in to four places (for astronomy). Luckily she also likes the place I got in, so we're hedging our bets and going to Wisconsin. I'm nervous about the program, because I don't have much of a theoretical background, more experimental. Anyone else going there?
  2. Maybe you can work in the department and get money off of a faculty's grant, or get an easy job on campus, or housing subsidization. Suffice to say I'm looking at the same prospect, but only have to worry about covering tuition.
  3. Wrap-Up: Accepted: WIsconsin Rejected: 9 Elsewheres Now: A. Convince my wife to come to a place where I have no guarantee of funding OR B. Go to Michigan/Indiana and reapply in a year. Good luck everyone!
  4. I hadn't heard anything for a while so I called them a few days ago and left a voicemail. Received a very kind rejection email yesterday.
  5. I'm a new person, just heard about the board. My interests are psycho (I have a few years of lab experience from undergrad) and now computational after reading about it and sitting in on a grad class. I'm applying to 10 schools jointly with my wife, so we're nervous about getting in. So far I've only heard one accept, my update is: Yes: Wisconsin No: Austin, Yale, Amherst, Cornell, Arizona ??: Michigan, Indiana, OSU, Maryland And I just heard from Arizona/Amherst yesterday by mail.
