  1. I just found out I will not be offered funding for the Phd program still waiting to hear about the MA program. At this point I feel better about choosing the MA program even if I dont get funding because taking out loans for a year or two is not as bad as for an entire Phd. I will still apply for a Phd program after im done my MA, and hopefully I will get more funding at that point.
  2. Thank you, I went on the website (khanacademy) yesterday and its great! Ill have to see if any of my engineering friends have some old calc books I can use:)
  3. Thank you. At least I know what I will be doing this summer I know im weak in the calc department. Any books you would reccommend?
  4. I have been reading though this blog for a while now. And something I noticed is the mentioning of math. Now, at my undergraduate, we some easy math, and I will really stress the “some” and “easy” part. Im getting a bit nervous now that my math skills may not be up to par with other entering grad students. Should I spend the summer hitting the books and brushing up on my math? If so what should I focus on? Can someone tell me how high they went in math in their poli sci undergraduate program? ThanksJ
  5. Id say you have a pretty good chance, however i think it depends on each school. I fit the requirements for my school online, so i decided to go to an open house for my program. There I met with a professor who told me I was a great fit for the program and after that day, the department kept in contact with me. As soon as my application was in, I was accepted. Im not sure how much of that was due to that I met with someone from the program and how much was simply due to me being a good fit for the program. My recommendation: if your school has an open house, go to it.
  6. Hi everyone By now most of us have heard from the schools that we applied for. I was recently accepted to two different schools, one for a MA program, and another for a Phd program. So now the big question, what school should I pick? Well, it all comes down to funding. Neither of the schools has come to a decision on my funding yet, however, I know both schools offer them (even for just the MA). After undergraduate loans, taking more loans for grad school is next to impossible for me, so it has to be the very last resort. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for outside funding for either an MA or a Phd in Poli Sci, or just have some general suggestions on how to survive financially, especially during the first two years of the MA? If you were not offered funding as of yet, what are your plans?
