School's rarely continue to match the stipend that your fellowship provided -- in fact, I've never heard of that. After I used my three years of NSF funding, I went back on a Research Assistantship stipend through the school (which was significantly less - about $10,000 less a year).

I got this email from Milton a few hours ago, too: We will not be holding the orientation this year. Please check your grants online account for a change in status. Best, Milton

I don't believe you can check the status online. At least I couldn't figure out how. I don't think they're responding to emails right now - sent a few earlier in the week. Why don't you call and ask Milton point blank? That sounds like a good idea. I've already called him twice, and heard the same thing both times...

My guess is that they've already sent out the invites, and he can't tell us that. So, maybe we should stop holding our breaths...

Do you think that's really true? Or is he just not telling us that they've been sent out? What was your read on the situation?

Yes, but he's also new at this, so maybe he doesn't know what to say... I suggest someone else calling him and seeing if they get the same response, maybe? Or we could probe more when he answers and say that it's not a lot of time before the May 29th date? I don't know....

Well, he could also not be telling the truth and they could have already sent them out. I think there's some weird confidentiality thing going on with notifications... the girl I know who got one last year basically had to promise not to tell anyone until they notified the "non-winners" in late June.

I just called and spoke to Milton. He said the training program invites for the NF scholarship hadn't gone out yet. I asked when they would, and he said probably by the end of the week.

That's what they did last year, too. The people who got it found out mid-May but couldn't say anything until June/July.

I left a message, so hopefully he'll answer either the email or the call. I will post when I hear something. I wish we could find someone that had heard already... I find it odd that nobody is writing to say they've found out....

Have they said that they've sent them yet? I'm wondering if it's a legal thing and they can't notify people who didn't receive the award (or even tell them about the notification of winners) until June. I wouldn't worry about a typo at all... chances are your reviewers missed it, too!

Has anyone that's been reading this been notified about the Nancy Foster scholarship this year yet??

I have not heard anything this year yet. However, I applied last year and did not get it. I found out on June 22, 2010 that I did not receive it. However, another student in my program got one and she was notified in May and had already attended the orientation before I even got the rejection letter. So, it seems like they notify the winners in time to go to the orientation (May 29th this year) and then notify everyone else after the fact.
