  1. Anyone out there apply to PhD programs in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in either Social Studies or History? I am looking to apply next fall and thought some of you pros out there might be willing to offer advice. I am currently looking at Stanford, UBC, University of Minnesota and Berkeley. I am hoping to research the topic of history education as a tool for reconciliation and national identity creation in post-conflict nations. I realize these are all top schools, however, so I would love to hear about other schools if anyone has thoughts on that. My stats: 3.7 undergrad GPA 4.0 grad - M.Ed - social studies 1420 GRE 8 years of teaching experience - Social Justice and History as well as coordinating immersion trips around the world for students. Again, I would be grateful for any advice. Congrats and good luck to those of you out there going through this process this year!
  2. I need some sage advice from the forum: I was rejected from four programs and wait listed at two during this cycle so it looks like even if I am accepted off the wait list, I will not be receiving any funding, which would severely limit my options and my ability to accept any offer. So it's back to square one. I have accepted this and am embracing this year as an important learning experience. At this point, I am trying to figure out what to do next to improve my application. I am currently a high school teacher and I have a BA in Poli Sci and an M.Ed from a selective school and I have the opportunity to do a funded Masters in Public Policy and Administration at a regional university and still keep my job so I can live to try another day. I am interested in International Relations and Comparative Politics and so my fear is that the Public Policy route my pigeon hole me into a more administrative/professional track, rather than the theory route of Poli Sci. The question is this: Do the masters, get great grades, connections with professors, retake the GREs and keep teaching or or....I don't know, quit my job, work for a think tank and try to apply to Masters in Poli Sci programs? Or something else all together? Thanks and congrats to all of you as you sign on the dotted line in the upcoming weeks!
  3. Ummm...Georgetown? Anyone? Anyone?
  4. What are the opinions out there regarding paying for a masters in Poli Sci? I haven't heard from all of my schools yet, but it appears that a masters might be my best option, rather than paying from my PhD. I currently have an M.Ed, which doesn't appear to be an impressive degree to anyone in the Political Science world. Should I invest in a masters and work on my researching and publishing and a language, even if it costs me, and then apply to a Ph.D program at the conclusion of said masters? Thanks in advance for any insights.
  5. Hello all, I thought I would throw my hat into the conversation. First off, thank you all for your comments and thoughts. This is perhaps the most supportive discussion link I've ever read! I haven't heard from ANYONE. Nada. No good news. No bad. I am thinking, however, that at this point, PhD programs do not appear to be in my immediate future. Waiting: WashU, Syracuse, BC, Georgetown, Minnesota, Columbia
