  1. email sent!
  2. Very interesting-so the emails asking for updated requests do indicate that an application has passed the regional stage. Just wanted to second the earlier sentiments; really appreciate you working on the spreadsheet and the forum. And even though you didn't get the scholarship, at least you'll have a job when you're done with college. We liberal arts folks who shun law school for more international pursuits end up unemployed 9 times out of 10! @Rebekah: Sounds like a good plan to me. I think I'm just going to go to Dar es Salaam next year anyways. I have one more class left before I graduate and am bored as hell.
  3. Yeah that is the big dilemma. No matter what, I think it is pretty unlikely. Are you still going to do SCALI at UF? It'll be intense but fun.
  4. Sounds like good advice to me! It is what I'll do. Congrats to all the winners!
  5. This is a bit annoying. I don't know if you feel the same way, but I can't fathom the idea that a lot of people would refuse their scholarship. I'm wondering whether or not I should just get the ball rolling on contingency plans and not wait around to hear from Boren. I googled "boren scholarship alternate" and it seems that a lot of people have received such an accolade rather than the scholarship itself.
  6. scholarship. I love how they say that if I don't hear back before October, then I can assume I wasn't selected. Well, I guess its on to plan b.
  7. alternate.
  8. we needed to run a pool last week. Everyone bets the day and time for the announcement, and whoever gets closest wins the pool.
  9. That is correct
  10. Hey everyone, I've been reading some of the discussion---there are a lot of Africa applicants on here! My Boren proposal is for Swahili at the University of Dar es Salaam. I also received an updated information request and a survey request so whoever is running the spreadsheet can add this info. I also applied for funding for SCALI at the University of Florida, but I now have an internship during the time it is running. However, I do go to UF and know some of the teachers and admins for the SCALI program so if you guys have any questions about UF or the African languages program, I can try and help you out. Hopefully we find out soon......
