emmm has replied to your exact same question in another thread.

"I'm sorry, but your scores are quite low, and you say your GPA is also low. Even for appliciants with great records, competition is especially tough for international students. You might need to consider retaking the GRE and reapplying. Also, not having gotten any interviews (even Skype interviews) does not seem like a good sign. Your research experience sounds great, but you need to have an overall strong package, and your GRE might really be hurting you (and the TOEFL seems low to me also, though I am not very familiar with the scoring scale for that ...)."

While we don't know your GPA,
    - you definitely want to have at least a 100 on your TOEFL iBT
    - you want to retake your GRE so that you get at least a 80% in your quantitative section, and 48% (4.0) in your Analytical Writing section.

Well, I'm going to U Pitt. During my visit, most of the grad students I spoke to said they like living just a little bit farther from the university as there are a lot of undergrads in Oakland. Though North Oakland was not made out to be nearly as bad as South. Some do live there, and the only positive thing they had to say about it is that it's close and cheap. If you want to be close to CMU I would look at Squirrel Hill. That way you're close and actually in a nice place to live.
I think I might be moving to Highland Park. From what I gather it's nice, though quiet (if I'm hanging out with other grad students, will likely be traveling to their neighborhoods). But it's inexpensive, a block from a frequent bus line, and not too far out in general. Basically I was looking for apartments in Friendship, as they're cheaper than Shady Side, and just worked my way up north a bit farther.

@muhammadaffawn I'm moving to Pittsburgh this fall and the only advice I've heard is: avoid Mozart Management. Other than that, I'm not sure, so far regent square rentals seems a bit more professional. Have you tried padmapper.com? I've been told that Squirrel Hill is a nice area to live in, as is Shady Side, though the latter is a little pricier and trendier.

The reason you got rejected is because you didn't send the thank you in time! Just imagine if you had!!

    1. You're an environmental/marine biologist.
    2. You're a girl.

So your idea of "how appropriate is a suit" is probably really messed up, lol.

If you go to somewhere in the middle of this thread I clearly say you should just follow whatever instructions they say...

    a

Nothing personal, but I couldn't NOT respond to the vehemence of this statement - bold and large font!

Speaking from over a decade of corporate, including senior managment:
You CAN be overdressed, particularly if you have been given specific indication that the expectation is "Business Casual". In this instance, a suit suggests that you actually DON'T care enough to pay attention to the guidance you've been given. And isn't that a big part of what being a grad student is all about?

What you are wearing does not ultimately determine whether or not you get the job/grad school offer, it is YOU that they want to understand. YOU need to feel comfortable enough to be YOURSELF and still "play the part" for what works in that particular environment.

If they have told you "Business Casual", DO NOT WEAR A SUIT.

Wow, spew's response is totally unnecessary. I too am 1. a marine biology student and 2. a girl, but how does that disqualify me from speaking about appropriate interview attire for my male colleagues? I'm sure it would be very easy for you to tell that a young woman was inappropriately dressed for a grad school interview if she was wearing, say, a cocktail dress? Or, at the other end of the spectrum, a t-shirt and jeans? Its just as easy for us "girls" to tell that a guy is over- or under-dressed for an occasion. As a previous poster mentioned, how you dress can reflect on your "fit" with the potential program, and if you are too dressy or too casual compared to what was suggested or how other members of your group are dressed, the faculty and staff may make some judgement based on that (fairly or not). I would worry much more about having that kind of condescension come through in an interview than how you are dressed.
