It's been almost 8 months since someone posted in this thread. Are any of the posters from this thread still active?

Agreed. I'm going to need this thread in a couple of months.

When this process started I was really just hoping for 1 "yes." Now I have choices between legitimately great programs. I'm pretty stunned really.

So I didn't apply to Madison but I look forward to seeing how many Madison posts end up on the results board as compared to Northwestern and Berkeley posts.

I wish I had some way to filter my emails so that I wouldn't get excited for new messages only to find some invitation to some event I've never heard of.

Perhaps you could stubbornly hold out hope until you receive a definitive "yes" or "no?!" You never know after all! I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck!

NewEnglandNat and telkanuru matter more than me by virtue of the fact that both of them are in outstanding programs. That said, I've probably talked to around 30 professors (including 4 from universities on your (levoyous) list) about this process at this point. While they've all had different things to say about this or that, there has been one constant in all of their remarks: the writing sample is what students should worry about and what they should spend their time on.

Based on the answers I've read over the last 3 years of posting & lurking I have to say that I think the only reason this answer hasn't been given more often is because of the holiday.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I noticed that one school's department web site suggests that their deadline is "hard." However, when I was contacted by someone working with applications I was specifically told that "so long as it gets here in the month of December you're fine."

I'm very thankful that I have coursework, grading, and a study abroad in January to distract me for the foreseeable future. I could not imagine having a lot of time to worry about what's happening. I wish you guys the best. Let me know how you handle it because if I strike out this round I might need to know how you did it this time next year.
