  1. Anybody going to Radford? PM me!!
  2. Totally agree! Feeling the exact same way...
  3. Gah! I am in the EXACT same boat... although each day it seems less likely I can get funding through the more expensive school. I am touring the more expensive one later this week, but already losing sleep over the decision! Right now, I think I'm leaning towards the cheaper option, even though it kind of sucks that money has to play such an important role in this decision.
  4. Anybody know ANYTHING about Eastern New Mexico??
  5. They called me at MIDNIGHT when I was in Mexico rambling about pre-recs too... I called them back when I got home with no answer. Seemed kind of ridiculous to me as well...
  6. Seriously, do not worry too much about your GPA! Really try hard to get it up, but I would say now start focusing on experience, getting great letters of rec, and then later, the GRE. By looking around on Grad Cafe, it is obvious I am the exception, but I have a 3.3 and have gotten accepted to two programs so far (waitlisted at two as well) and I haven't even heard back from 5! (I also only have a 3.3 in the Com Dis major...) What I did was similar to the advice given to you above... I started researching this time last year. I made an excel doc of all grad schools I was considering. I probably emailed 150 programs asking for stats from last years accepted class and put those numbers in the spreadsheet. Use the ASHA website to search for schools, but do not rely on their outdated numbers. I do have one really great LOR, and the other 2 were good as well. I have LOTS of experience from during school because I worked full-time almost all the way through. I've also volunteered at at least one place throughout school. Both my jobs and volunteer experiences were related to SLP in some way. I got those by emailing places asking for opportunities to observe, volunteer, or work. People thought I was crazy during this entire process, but it worked! It is not all about numbers, but you need to make sure you look appealing to a committee based on your whole application! I hope that helps and good luck!! It's all worth it when you get your first acceptance.
  7. Unlikely, but anybody have any clue when we're supposed to hear from Armstrong Atlantic State University?? Or about availability of assistantships there??
  8. So I need advice... about something that might seem pretty dumb. Later this week, I'll be driving 11 hours to go visit a school I recently got accepted to. Because of the long drive (and the fact that I'm attempting it after a work day), my mom is going to join me for road trip company. This isn't an 'official' school visit or anything, I just emailed the head of the department and I'm meeting at her office for her to talk to me and show me around. Now for the question... Is it weird if my mom comes along to the actual school visit? She really wants to, but I don't want to seem weird or anything. Should I email and ask?
  9. I realized this about a week ago too and I'm kind of freaking out!
  10. I've been eating Thin Mints daily...
  11. Awesome! I'm pretty excited about this one!
  12. I got accepted to Radford University today! I am so excited, but in my letter is says they would 'strongly encourage' me to let them know by MARCH 23RD!! What? Is that possible? Should I call them? I really wanted to visit there, and I live really far away, so I definitely wouldn't be able to visit before then. Also, anybody know anything about Radford?
  13. I'm really starting to hate waitlists!
  14. Maybe it's quiet because mail hasn't arrived yet?? I was looking at the GradCafe listings for acceptances and rejections, and saw somebody heard from a school I applied to. Panic mode is setting in! I have to leave for work and have all my roommates on high mail patrol! (They are probably so sick of waiting for the mailman...) Hope everybody gets great news today!!
  15. This makes me feel so much better! This is what I'll have to do... seems so stressful to me right now!
  16. I've been creeping on this thread for a long time and today I got accepted! Earlier this week I got wait-listed at UW Eau Claire, and today I got accepted to Kearney-Nebraska. I tried to apply to smaller, less competitive programs because my numbers aren't that great. I am still soo excited! I started crying when my mom called me. It was sent to my permanent address also... Good luck to everybody!
