Hi there,
I have completed MS in statistics from my university almost one and half year ago. I had a keen desire to research in Econometrics, but didn't get any professor or mentor who could help me out on this. I scored 56% in honours and 61% in Masters, but left the academic life without any research or publication due to unavailability of resources(books, access to journals etc) and expert professor in this field.
Fortunately, I am working in a telecommunication company where there is different challenges to work on. Currently I am working with different dimensions of statistics- Time series (forecasting), Queuing Stochastic Process (Erlang - C), Some beginners-level application of operations research. I have developed my skill all by myself, with the help of pdfs available in internet, books and other. I know very well that there are lacking in my knowledge and application as well, that's why I need to give emphasis on study right now.
I am planning for higher studies, preferably for PhD. I am confused that which area of statistics covers these different areas of my experience! I don't know how I should approach to a university professor since I don't have any publication.
Would a PhD in Statistics and Operations Research be wrong to plan?
What is the chance of getting a positive feedback when I uphold my job experience instead of publication?
Will be waiting for a feedback................thanks to all
