Um...did people actually get invited to the prospective weekend and then get rejected? Because I went, and didn't think that I was that impressive, and then about a week later I got an email saying I was on the wait list. And I know the same thing happened to a few other people who were there. So I thought that everyone who got invited to the thing and but who weren't admitted were put on the wait list. But did anyone get an outright rejection?

I'm the person who posted the acceptance. I don't know why no one else seems to have been notified; I received an email from the department last Friday afternoon (27 February) and on Monday they sent, also by email, the funding info. Near the end of the second email, though, they wrote that they're expected an incoming class of "about 15 new students (in a program of about 140 students)", which seems to imply that they are cutting their numbers quite a bit this year.
