  1. Hi All, I've read topic tin piecemeal on some other threads, but considering how smart/well-researched/opinionated everyone is on this board, I wanted to see if I could specifically draw out any of your opinions on Columbia's SIPA. I've been accepted to the MPA program, focusing on Economic and Political Development (possibly a Management specialization). Still waiting to hear from Harvard, but I've also been accepted to similar programs at Georgetown (GPPI) and Duke. Here are my initial thoughts on the strenghts/weaknesses of the SIPA program: Strengths -NYC location (networking, possibility for internships at iNGOs) -Resources (large student body and faculty) -Options to take courses at Public Health School, Teacher's College, Law School, etc. -New curriculum has both a policy concentration (ie. Economic and Political Dev, Environmental Policy, etc) and a professional or regional specialization (advanced policy and economic evaluation, management, etc.) Weaknesses -BIG program, perhaps impersonal? (anyone have an idea of average class size?) -$$$$$!!!! Man, it's expensive! And only a 50% shot at a 2nd year fellowship. -Not ranked as highly as some other comparable programs Anyone care to add your thoughts? I'd say "a penny for your thoughts", but considering how much debt I'm about to go into, I need to save every last cent I've got... Thanks in advance!
  2. I just logged into my application to see the "Decision ready" link. Never received an email. But I've been accepted so WOO HOO! However, no $$ for me so we'll if I can afford it. Not going to stress about the decision until Harvard starts telling people. Then I'll try to figure it out. But for now I'm just going to ride the wave of my 3 acceptances and be happy... GOOD LUCK to those still waiting!!!!
  3. The other day I made a graph titled "Time Spent Waiting on Graduate School Admissions Decisions" with two trends plotted, and sent it off to family & friends to provide them with a visual representation of my current state of mind. The first line shows Productivity, which plummets a time goes on. The second line shows Alcohol Consumption, which naturally does the reverse and sky rockets the longer one spends waiting. My stellar quant skills are being put to good use here.
  4. For those of you who found out SIPA had misplaced your documents, how did you find out? Did they contact you? My application status has said "complete" since January, however I'm starting to get nervous hearing about all these missing documents! Also, to those of you who contacted the SIPA office directly in inquire about the status of your application, were the admissions folks willing to chat with you? I'm reluctant to check in with them considering they've explicitly said they can't respond to individual inquiries, however the talk of missing documents is causing me to wonder if maybe I should?...
  5. Still haven't heard either! Commence compulsive email- checking in 3...2...1...
  6. I received my decision in February too, but still no official snail mail letter either! I'm waiting till next week, then calling.
  7. I haven't heard anything either. Fingers crossed!
