I have gotten the official acceptance from UCLA, well official, unofficial acceptance. Sweet
Awesome! Congratulations, dm242!

Eventful 24 hours on my end.
1) Denied by Penn. I wasn't invited to interview, so I knew it was coming.
2) Admitted to HGSE (Ed.D. - Higher Ed). Totally unexpected. Received news via phone call.
3) Emailed Penn State to decline their offer.
Good luck, everyone! Congrats to the recent Stanford admits!
Amazing wayoutwest128! You've had quite a run. Congratulations!

I received an offer from Emory today it's not my number one, but it comes with guaranteed funding for 5 years, including full tuition, a stipend, and health insurance; plus significant additional funds for travel to conferences and research expenses. This is a good start to my long weekend. I hope everyone keeps hearing positive news!
Congratulations litjust! This is great news. Hope you land at your #1.

Does anyone have any experience with or thoughts on 755 Broad or 909 Broad?

Does anyone know the status of the Vanderbilt Ed.D applications. Just curious about the timeline...
Congratulations on Arizona abr2116. I applied to the Vanderbilt HELP Ed.D. program. From last year's results, decisions come out in late March. I also have a colleague who is currently in his second year in the program. When he applied, he didn't receive a decision until late March. That said, when I submitted my application last fall and inquired about when decisions would be made, I was told that faculty begin reading applications in December and have a preliminary set of decisions regarding first round admits by mid-February. Information about financial aid awards is provided to this group in mid-March. However, faculty do hold off on decisions for some applicants until they have received a response from the first round admits, and it is not uncommon for subsequent (favorable) admission decisions to be rendered in the March/April timeframe. Good luck!!!

Hi all,
Just wanted to update that I recieved my UCLA SRM rejection letter this morning. Posted on the board. Not too sad. I'm actually pleased because all my decisions are in -- and I'm headed to beautiful UC Irvine!
Congrats to all who've gotten in and hugs to all who didn't.
Awesome wannabeaphd! Congratulations on gaining closure. I'm dating myself but there's something to be said for the Crosby, Stills & Nash song that goes "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with". My decisions aren't all in, but I'm embracing and giving thanks for what I have.

wheatGrass, the AERA GSC has specific content planned for graduate students attending the conference. Check out the Fall 2011 newsletter. http://www.aera.net/uploadedFiles/Graduate_Students/Newsletters/Connections_v2.pdf.
I'm not attending the AERA conference this year, but am definitely making plans to be there next year.

Finally, some good news to share! I've been accepted to the Institute of Higher Education at Georgia! Can hardly believe it!

Congratulations lilgreycells! Truly awesome! I applied to Penn GSE for Higher Education as well. Gotta move on now, and am hopeful for better news from other schools.
Good luck during the PhD weekend!

In the last couple of years, Penn GSE has sent the PhD weekend invitations out around now...January 19 or 20. I think EdD weekend invitations will go out next week. They'll probably post on the blog tomorrow that all PhD invites were extended. I didn't receive anything, so I'm guessing it's a "no".

Congrats abr2116! Good luck!

Congratulations Litjust! Awesome news!
Good luck hitomimay. You can do it!

Update 12/22: Director of USC's PhD program just emailed me last night. She says she thinks I'm a very good fit for the program and she wants to talk on the phone tonight! OMG!!! ><'' Fingers crossed. Wish me luck! (Wasn't aware USC had interviews? O.o?!)
That's great news! Good luck!

My interests are specific to access, completion and public policy. For the past several years I've worked on grant-funded pipeline programs aimed at increasing the number of low-income and underrepresented students entering college. I am also interested in quantitative research methods. What are your interests?
Very similar to yours. I'd like to explore higher ed access and attainment among first generation, low-income and underrepresented populations as an outcome of K-12/16 reform and the use of such information and academic research in ongoing ed policymaking. Your current work sounds very interesting. I'm currently working in higher ed administration.

abr2116 and hitomimay, what are your research interests in higher education? Here's to good news in 2012 for us all!

Last year's acceptance rate was 6% for the PhD program. I'm not sure about the EdD.
Good luck to you, litjust. I hope you make it as well!
-
Just saw that Penn GSE received 700 applications for its doctoral programs this cycle!
-
I'm applying to a combination of EdD and PhD programs:
Columbia (Higher & Postsecondary Education)
Georgia (Higher Education)
WashU (Educational Policy)
Penn (Higher Education)
Vanderbilt (Higher Education Leadership and Policy)

Wannabeaphd, I think TexanLex was referring to the rankings for the Higher Education specialization. Vandy is #1 overall for Education and #5 for Higher Education.
