Previous Degrees and GPA's: BA in English, GPA (converted): 3.8

GRE Scores (Verbal/Quantitative/Analytical Writing): 450/750/3.5 (Sad...didn't have enough time to prepare the verbal & AW sector due to busy work...)

Previous Work Experience (Years, Type): 2 years supply chain (int'l logistics related) coordination job in private sector

Math/Econ Background: calculus, linear algebra/international economies, political economy, macro & micro

Foreign Language Background: Chinese native, decent in German, with some knowledge of French and Japanese

Intended Field of Study in Grad School: Int'l economics & Int'l development studies

Long Term Professional Goals: Policy analyst or development consultant

Schools Applied to & Results: American-MIA (accepted), Bush-MPIA (denied), GMU-MPP (accepted), Gtown-MSFS (waitlisted), Fletcher-MALD (denied)

Ultimate Decision & Why: Will most likely to go to American SIS, because of the location and curriculum, though I still haven't received their physical packet to know if there's any $$ (damned China Post, so slow!). Also will take the spot of MSFS on the waitlist to see what'll finally happen.

  2. Compare to SIPRA, Hopkins-Nanjing program is better I think. Though SIPRA could be regarded as top 5 in China, it probably quite behind the first tier schools in the U.S. You'll still get many opportunities to go to China even if you study in US schools, either exchange programs or summer programs.

  3. Did you ever get that email. I am an intl applicant that applied to a dual degree program. I heard from the other school almost a month ago but still nothing from SIS. I am just wondering what my chances are of getting the decision via email.

Hi mbagirl, I'm an int'l applicant also. I emailed the admission office about my decision on 10/Mar and they told me my decision was sent on 6/Mar, no word on whether it's good news or not. Then on 23/Mar, I felt I can't wait anymore, so I emailed them again to see why the envelop still hadn't arrived at me. They soon responsed with a decision letter in text format, which told me I'm in, though till now I still haven't got the packet. So just try to ask them!

  4. I don't know much about SIRPA's brand name, but I spend the summer at Fudan a couple of years ago, being taught by a few of the professors from SIRPA. I have to say that even though the city was amazing, the educational experience was subpar. There were a couple of really good professors, but the rest were pretty much just repeating the 'party line' when it came to Chinese foreign policy and economic reform. Not very challenging or self-reflective. I hear that the quantitative courses are good, but to be honest the policy courses do not seem worth it.

Totally agree. I'm from Shanghai. Actually SIRPA is very famous in China but not the same abroad, and it's true that if you want to explore some government policies, don't expect more than the demostrating and reiterating of the CPC guideline.

  5. I got a big package in the mail with acceptance letter & fellowship info.

Thank you for your quick reply, Slothrop99! So you mean the fellowship info is separate from the acceptance letter? Then Is there any word on fellowship mentioned in the accetance letter? My admission package is still en route (damned snail mail!)...

  6. To those who received SIS's admission packet with funding: Congrats! And is your funding information mentioned in the admission letter or there's another letter(or sth like that) which is separate from the admission letter that tell you the funding decision? Because I emailed the admission office about the status and the office response me with a text format of my admission letter, with no funding mentioned on that...So just wonder if I'll get no $$ from SIS...

  7. Site is back up. I am assuming that if a decision is not posted that you shouldn't get your hopes up? Admissions blog says that all decisions haven't been posted, but I don't know why you would leave acceptances until Monday. Additionally, I have yet to see any rejections posted...

It's quite possible, or maybe they're updating as per name's alphabetical? I'm quite confused

To those who got acceptance: Congrats! And just curious what's the first letter of your names? Wonder if they alphabetized...

  8. To those who already received postal mails: Congradulations! And could you tell me whether it comes by express or snail mail? Because I emailed to ask my status and got reply that my decision was sent out on 6/Mar and should be arrived at me in up to 10 days, just curious if they send express mails? Since I'm outside U.S and it usually takes 3-4 weeks for snail mail to arrive...
