  1. Just got my first acceptance (to balance out my Yale rejection). Accepted via email to Ohio State University. Also had a phone interview today with Ohio University at Athens. And also got a phone call from Wash U (St. Louis) to advise I was accepted there too.

For Ohio in Athens - was that for an MFA in Photo? Or Photojournalism?

  2. ms.TMZ -

Why didn't you look into Ohio University's photojournalism program? It's the best, by far, for anyone who is interested in photojournalism. Most College Photographers of the Year are alums from that program, Terry Eiler is amazing. Everyone is amazing. I can only say the absolute best things about that place.

Also, has anyone ever had experience with professors contacting you via phone and asking if you're still interested in the program, before acceptance?

  3. Congratulations, that's a great program and getting that far is a big achievement for sure. Are you applying other places too?

Thank you! I'm really excited! And yes, I applied to Wisconsin Madison, University of Illinois and Ohio University (MA in Photojournalism). What about you?

  4. Hey everybody,

I was placed on the alternative list at University of Minnesota for an MFA in Photography. I called and they told me that 2 people were admitted and 2 are accepted onto the alternative list. Now it's just a waiting game to see if those other two aren't interested.

I'm rather excited about even being considered.

Has anyone heard back at all?

  5. How are you all doing on applications, essays, and stuff?

I just started writing my statement of intent - this past month I visited University of Minnesota, University of Illinois, and Wisconsin Madison. Heading to Ohio in the middle of November. Probably should start getting everything together a bit fast now that October is almost expired.

  6. Your statement should primarily be about your conceptual framework for making photographs and where you see yourself going. I definitely wouldn't list classes. I could see mentioning a class if it was particularly influential on your work. The statement should not be another resume, but give them enough info to find interest in your working methods and why you need to be in their MFA program.

Thanks, that was a big help!

  7. Hey all,

I'm applying to get my MFA in Photography now. It's freaking terrifying. My work is documentary, with one foot in the world of fine arts, the other in photojournalism. I'm a bit worried that I'll be outshone by the abstract photographers.

    I'm applying to -

    University of Minnesota

    University of Illinois

    University of Wisconsin Madison

    University of New Mexico

    MassArt

    Ohio University (MA in Photojournalism)

    University of Washington

Any advice on statement of intent for these schools? My portfolio is solid, but I know my statement blows. Currently, it's a list of classes I took, things I did... not really too interesting.
