azul There is a fairly in-depth thread that can be found here: http://forum.thegradcafe.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=16564 I am on a wait-list, too. I sent an email to the director stating that I am still very much interested in the program. Good luck!

Wow, this is great! Congrats!! Did they say they made a mistake? I think you should do it!

Await, Honestly, the response seems like a form letter. And in this whole thing, what I've learned, is that there are no rules, and there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to this process. When I accept this (which usually happens for a fleeting moment) then it all makes sense. I feel very similar. I was told that I would be notified by the end of this month. As time goes on, I feel less and less sure of a decision in my favor. I have mentioned on other threads that I was told by the director that they pick people from the wait-list that they deem complementary to the other students-- whatever that means. So, if I'm not picked, I guess I wasn't complementary enough. I, like you, have thought about sending another email off-- but, what about calling? Do you think that will come off as too overly persistent? And do we really have anything to lose? I am sure that the program you applied to had a huge applicant pool with experience in the field you are interested in. Perhaps, this is what they were going on, this process is truly a mystery. Good luck!

Await Great thread topic! Whitneyyy That is a fantastic story! I wrote several emails, and then thought, hell, I should have called. Oh well. I may still call next week. I was told, however, that the adcom takes students based on how they will be complementary to the incoming class. Maybe I should tell them I love them!

^ 'tis true. good luck to everyone! It seems that the results board has had a lot more wait-list activity lately.

I got the feeling from the reply to an email I sent off that I am in the latter category. I was told that they ( I assume adcom) would look to complement the incoming cohort with people from the wait-list. I was also told that the wait-list was not ranked. I kind of wish that it was-- and then, maybe, just maybe, I'd have an inkling at my chances. I was also told that I would hear later in the month.

Thanks! Maybe I am completely stupid, but I have no idea who or if my program has a graduate coordinator. It is a small program that is operated within a larger system of a school (Being really vague here, I know). Hmm, I copied the secretary as well, but I will check out the website and see if I can get any info on whom I should be speaking to.

this is all good news! Now I have a couple of questions-- I emailed the assistant director to the program on Thursday late evening. It was a casual email that gave some personal info and spoke to the fact that I would absolutely accept a positon for fall admission. On Friday morning I spoke with the dean of admissions and he let me know that they are no longer involved in the program at all stating, "Now, it's in the hands of your program, contact them". So I sent another email that was more wait-list questionnaire in theme. Now, I guess, I just wait? So I have yet to hear back. Do I send an email to the Director? or give it a couple days? I want them to know that I am interested, but I don't want to border on harassment . Do I call? or is that ridiculous? Thanks for any help. Any ideas?

Cara and Viking, Congratulations! Send some of your good luck my way  That's great news, and I feel hopeful, after sending off an email to the assistant director to the program.

You know-- I feel rather positive about the wait-list situation. Before this I was bonkers, see title description for blatant misspelling Although, it will be a longer wait, I have a plan of attack, and I am NOT rejected, at least, not yet. I had no experience prior to this, I only really liked one school, after my interview, I thought I was o.k. So good luck to you, Professor. I say, when you hear, contact the school and good luck!

I was wait listed, maybe this is why they were all so vague.

Await, like you I applied to one school; it was the school I wanted to attend, and I had a great interview. I felt confident, but then as time wore on, I was a little skeptical of my chances. Yesterday, I received the wait list letter. What does everyone's inquiry look like in tone and subject? I am going to email, call, and send a thank you card(because, here's to hoping visual people respond to visual things). I would love help though from other's experience. Await, what did your email sound like? I figure I will ask about rank only at the very end, and focus more on dates, focus on questioning the "composition of the list" and my enthusiasm for the program.

Thank you, I am driving myself crazy-- and it didn't help seeing someone's post that they received word via email. I have little to no experience in this field, and I am assuming that they are giving out fellowships first, etc. Hopefully, I will know soon, and will learn to wait it out Thanks again! and nope, not Berkeley and liszt thanks for the hopeful words about your friends from U of Chicago!

Hi, like many here, I am waiting in limbo-- which is no fun; so I emailed the administrative assistant about my status, and she replied with this helpful nugget: Many thanks for your email. All admissions letters will be sent out on Friday, March 13th. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions or concerns. Of course, me the over thinker (and most likely certain of failure) thought that this seemed to be a thinly veiled "you did not get in". I saw one person posted that they got into the particular program after an interview on the results forum page, however, I had my interview earlier in the year. Is it still possible to receive acceptance versus snail mail? or is that so 1999? Does the assistant's email smell of rejection? I have no idea, any help would be much appreciated. I have been lurking, and it seems their is a wealth of info on here! thanks.
