  1. Wow blindblonde, NETHERLANDS? That's gutsy and sounds awesome! I live abroad right now so coming back to the US, or at least North America, was a must for me. After a looooong wait, a few acceptances, some disappointing fake-out almost acceptances turned rejections, lots of "we're low on funding this year" and some more rejections, I'm headed to the University of Maryland at College Park, fully funded. Their Social and I/O areas merged so it's called Social, Decision and Organizational Science. Can't wait! Relieved it's over, but... what hobby will I take up to replace compulsive email/thegradcafe checking?
  2. Not exactly. I think having funding would allow me to consider Kansas more seriously than I am now, but I'm already leaning toward another school. Even if funding came through for Kansas, I might still go with the other school.
  3. I *may* be giving up a spot at Kansas. Right now I'm waiting for them to come up with an offer of funding. That might be useful for you to know in case you get off the waiting list-- that funding has not yet been secured for everyone.
  4. Now that I'm assuming UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara may be shot... Has anyone heard about the University of British Columbia? There's no Social information on the results page for this year. Have any Americans gotten offers from Canadian schools? A professor at the University of Toronto warned me during my interview that the university has limited the number of offers they can make to foreign students this year.
  5. Sahana-- At Kansas, I'm interested in working with Glenn Adams for cultural psych. Also would like to work with Monica Biernat and Chris Crandall some. There seems to be some interesting political psych going on at Kansas-- that's something Ludwin Molina does, right? I've barely heard from the department though, probably because they're freaking out about funding us. As for UMD SDOS, I found out via email on Feb 1. I'm not sure how many students they plan to admit in total. So far I've heard about one person who's already accepted the offer and another who hasn't decided yet. There was no interview, which surprised me. On another note, I'm becoming depressed about prospects for Americans in Canada. A University of Toronto professor who I interviewed with told me today that the university was limited in the number of offers they could make to foreign students this year, so he couldn't make a formal offer to me now. His email generally made it sound like he planned to admit me if he could get the approval of the university, but I'm not quite sure what to expect. I was wondering if anyone else has had similar or different experiences at Canadian schools this year. I'm extremely interested in UBC but have no idea what my odds are there.
  6. I sent you a personal message because I didn't want to start any rumors about professors that I heard casually... they know where to find me! Also, same deal for me about UC Davis as some of you-- no email, no status change. By the way, how about those admit/deny provisions they have on the website? I'm not sure I want to know I didn't get in because my letters of rec weren't strong enough! Haha
  7. Hi everyone, I can't believe I didn't know about this website or these forums until today. Guess I'll join the commiseration! I noticed some posts asking about info from certain schools awhile back but it's a bit late to respond to those individually, so here's what I've got so far: Accepted: University of Maryland at College Park (SDOS), University of Kansas, University of Hawaii at Manoa (Community and Culture-- already turned down) Interviewed but still waiting: University of Toronto, Georgetown (Human Development and Public Policy) Blindly waiting: UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, Stanford (Personality), University of Virginia, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of British Columbia, Iowa State University Rejected: University of Michigan (surprise! haha) To the person who got into Kansas: Congrats, and I got the same message about funding! Who are you interested in working with there? For people who applied to UVA: I went to UVA as an undergrad and know that at least 3 of the professors I worked with in Social are not likely to accept students due to funding, too many students, etc. I applied anyway because I'm still miffed that they made me graduate and leave the place! However, I haven't made any inquiries lately (awkward since I don't want professors to worry about me taking it personally) so your guess is as good as mine! Some of the information I've read about interviews/recruitment weekends at UCSB and UC Davis is discouraging, but I suppose it's still optimistic to keep fingers crossed for a spot on the waiting list. I live in Japan right now, and I get very impatient waiting for mail! It's a convenient excuse for why my heaps of acceptance letters with extravagant fellowships haven't arrived yet, but I suppose the distance excuse doesn't hold well for email. :-) Congrats to everyone on acceptances so far!
