  1. My primary interests are dysphagia and neurogenic com disorders, aphasia in particular. Ive recently found myself really fascinated by Autism though, so hopefully will be able to explore that more in the year to come.
  2. Man no kidding. Seemed like notification dates had been really consistent with last year until today. FAIL. Time to go drink some wine and wait for tomorrow. Cheers!
  3. Awesome thank you!! My lady friend is from Texas, so knows the area pretty well, but if UTA ends up being the lucky winner I'd definitely be interested in chatting about your experience from the school. Did you like the Austin area while you were there?
  4. Oh man, I've been handling the waiting pretty well until this morning. I keep checking my inbox expecting there to be two or three decisions posted at any minute. JUST GIVE ME SOMETHING, DAMNIT! I hope everyone starts really hearing back today. SLP-Allie, can I ask why you didnt apply to the UC Boulder program? I'm familiar with the Boulder/Denver area, but would be interested to hear your thoughts on the faculty and facilities at the school.
  5. First acceptance phone call from MGH this morning!! Being all the way in Portland. OR, I doubt I'll be able to make it to their open house at the end of the month. Anyone on here from the Boston area or have any experience with the program/facilities/faculty? I'd be really interested in hearing your thoughts on both the city and the school. When I spoke with the program head he said they were making calls over the course of a couple of days, so don't lose heart guys.
  6. Honestly, I'm interested in a program that has a greater focus on medical speech pathology, with more connections to area hospitals and rehab facilities, which I dont necessarily think is a focus for either PSU or Pacific. Plus Ive lived in Portland most of my life, and while it's an absolutely awesome city, I'm looking for a change of scenery for a bit And again, while I like a lot of the faculty at PSU, their facilities there are just not that great in my opinion, and I think they might be stretching themselves a little thin with the resources they have bringing in a new class of 50 students. Anyway I hope your interview at Pacific goes well!
  7. Did anyone here happen to attend the interview sessions at Pacific this past weekend? Im interested to hear what everyone's impressions of the program were. I live in the Portland area, and am completing my post-bac work at Portland State, but ultimately ended up not applying to the Pacific program since this is the first year they have offered both the AuD and MA SLP curriculum and I'm worried that there will be too many 'first year kinks' to sort out that will affect the quality of the education. In talking to a friend who attended, it sounds like they plan on doing all required clincial practicum off-site, which sounds like a good way to gain lots of real-world expereince, but also seems like it would ultimately reduce the amount of one-on-one time between faculty and students. Their facilities are really nice though, and they have a reputation for offering solid medical professional training, so I hope everyone who ended up going had a positive experience! Also good luck to everyone who applied to the Portland State program. I heard they also received over 350 applications this year. They did increase the size of their incoming class from 30 to 50 last year, so there's that. I can definitely attest to the quality of the professors there. There are lots of younger, really bright folks of faculty who are really working hard to make a name for themselves in the speech language community and are eager to tutor students. Just something to be aware of, the facilities at PSU are somewhat lacking (not tons of funding), and the department is located in a basement, so hopefully you wont mind spending two years underground! I do know that they are bringing on a couple of additional faculty members for next year, so hopefully that trend continues!
  8. Serious thanks for posting that info re: the Northwestern open house! I sent Cindy Coy an email yesterday, and was hoping that just getting the letter in the first place meant I'd at least survived the first round of cuts. February = longest short month ever.
