  1. I had no illusions that I would know my fate before April haha.
  2. Yeah they placed someone in Theory at Cornell, that's pretty epic in my opinion... I DO wonder how other theory people placed in Canada? It's clearly too early to ask for that info haha Cheers! I hope one of us gets it too! And I hope you do theory so that I'm one of the Grad Cafe'ers you're talking about
  3. Got on the waiting list for University of Toronto for political theory. Yaay!
  4. Oh crap. Toronto's contacted their people by email already. I wonder if there's a wait list.
  5. Excited about Grad Cafe Results that U of T's made its decision and will be mailing out results friday... unless it's a troll...
  6. Anybody else waiting on Toronto to answer? It looks like historically we should be hearing back by next Friday!
  7. This sounds weird, but I've always been fascinated with the "acknowledgements" page(s) of a Professor's book. I think that's a great way to find out their networks, by seeing who helped them with their books and who they're getting their ideas and criticisms from.
  8. You should arrange for a phone call from the Director of Grad services, it really helps! Some DGS are so on the ball they even have skype. A nice little face to face really went a long way to a) taking away some concerns I might have had about uprooting and moving. b ) Makes it feel really REAL. Like picturing myself there in the near future. stupid emoticons... I just want to say b ) but it turns it into a
  9. I'm going to be honest here, I mildly face palmed when I read your post... but then I realized you're probably not in theory/philosophy so you could probably use your skills in the "real" world.
  10. So I got in somewhere and I'm visiting in March and their website has a "placement" page, but the problem is that it isn't very specific, in fact it's quite opaque. So first of all, is it cool if I ask for a more detailed placement record during the visit? Second, how do I not look like a douche doing it??
  11. Damn you for making a good point! Kidding of course
  12. More rejections from Northwestern... no update in my status... Quietly optimistic that they haven't filled all their theory spots...
  13. I think Kem140 was just expressing confusion because most people report their offer post-tuition waiver and health insurance.
  14. Thanks! Appreciate it. Now I have to go clean my room since I realized there's a camera involved in skype haha.
  15. Hello, I was wondering, for people who've had conversations with POIs or Grad directors... what do you guys talk about? I got admitted to a school and my POI wants to skype. Should I be preparing a list of questions? Is this a hello how are you? Are they going to probe into what other schools I'm waiting for?
  16. Hey guys, just saw a flood of Northwestern rejections... So I checked the site and my decision still hasn't been rendered... is.. that... good news? HA! sorry, I'm lurking more, a number of us haven't changed status yet... went from optimistically pessimistic to pessimistically optimistic
  17. Chantelle Mouffe and Shaun Gallagher's "How the Body shapes the Mind" Both are pretty awesome
  18. When I search the results page on grad cafe I usually use (politics|government|political) so I nearly crapped myself when I say University of Toronto listed, luckily it was for: Department For The Study Of Religion (Religion, Culture, Politics) Anybody else applying to Canadian schools?
  19. egads I hope not. If THAT'S true, then they did political theory first, then IR on Feb 9th and my chances are toast. Sigh... as I typed toast, Per Mertesacker just fell over and Sunderland scored on Arsenal... sigh... I hope that's not an omen.
  20. Hey Apill, I was wondering which day you got your Northwestern acceptance? Was it Feb 9 or 6? cheers and congrats!
  21. Hand shakes and bum slaps all around Northwestern hopefuls! We live to fight another day!
  22. Cheers, That's a good point, no despairing till all the rejections and hopefully acceptances pile up! Good lucks to peeps!
  23. I've been working on agonistic democratic theory, mostly centred around citizenship and Muslims in Europe and feminist philosophy and the veil and relating those particular things to a more general theory of secularization inspired by Charles Taylor
  24. Gar. I wanted to work with Bonnie Honig and Lars Tonder... I'm not resigning myself to being rejected quite yet... but if Northwestern's already contacted their potential political theorists already... sigh.
