  1. Visited the University of Arizona over the weekend & must say that I was really impressed. The faculty is really an impressive group of people, weather is great, quality program, great facilities, affordable living, etc. Originally I viewed the UofA as a fall back option but now I'm quite sure I will choose them over USC/Michigan. Interesting how a visit can change your perspective.

  2. Yesterday was a good day. My phone call with Michigan & skype with USC went well. Both professors were very friendly & seemed like good people to work with. Although I don't have any acceptances in hand yet my confidence is certainly growing based upon these conversations. I don't want to think about it too much as the process already dominates most of my thoughts but there are a lot of pros and cons for Michigan and USC. Well I'm anxious to hear as more acceptances roll in...Good luck all!

  3. Okay so now I'm joining those of you who are freaking out! As of yesterday I had only heard from USC and was starting to settle on the fact that it would be a great fit and awesome place to be for the next 4 years - then I get a phone interview invite from Wisconsin and Michigan! I'm afraid I will be a wreck this whole weekend worrying about my interviews on Monday and Tuesday....

  4. Interview with USC went well. The professor was very friendly and the interview felt more like a recruitment event than an interrogation. I came away very impressed with her and her research. The first half of the discussion was her explaining about the PhD program and her research. She didn't give a timeline but said I'd be hearing from them soon...thanks for the well wishes and best of luck to you all!

  5. I agree that you should get involved as much as possible NOW. The job market is tight so when you get done with your graduate program you want to have as much experience as possible. Best advice I could give you is to not over pay for your masters program. I completed my masters in higher ed/student affairs from one of the "highly ranked" programs. You have several good programs close to you in Virginia (UVA, William & Mary, VA Tech, etc.). Avoid private school programs that are highly priced. I've been working for four years and just paid off my student loans; I wish very much that I had completed my program at a state school or somewhere that provided opportunities to fund my studies. Avoid debt; this is a great field but salaries do not warrant $30,000 plus in debt.
