SLP/Communication Disorders Masters Applicants

I agree! I was not expecting to feel badly about turning down offers, but I do. I'm sure the schools will live. I'm turning down offers at Rush, MGH, Columbia, Pacific U, PDX State and UMD today -- hope that helps some people on waitlists! -

Do you guys think there is absolutely anything you can do to increase your chances of getting in off of a waitlist? I have gotten into other programs so I can't complain too much, but was waitlisted at my first choice and would really, really like to go there both for the program itself and personal reasons regarding location, etc. Any thoughts on if there is anything that would help ? -

Ok, well their lack of communication with you as well makes me less paranoid! Maybe I'll still try to give them a call to check -- I think every other school I applied to has at least sent out a form "we got your app" email. I agree completely... it's pricey, but so are most of the schools I applied to, and I can justify it by thinking it's all that much faster I'll be employed as an SLP! Good luck to you! I'll let you know if I get any useful info out of them if/when I call. -

To completely change the subject, Chrysanthemum, I see you applied to UPacific -- have you heard anything at all from them, like even confirmation letter/email that they received your application? (or anyone else who applied there?) I've not heard a word, though they cashed my check. I'm really interested in their program since it's accelerated... -

congrats! my interview was maybe about 30 minutes? it was very friendly and informal, so assuming yours is similar, you shouldn't have too much to worry about. when is the interview? hope it goes well! -

leesta, I applied to Chapman and had an interview today (fingers crossed it went well!). I won't say too much considering this is a public forum and you never know who's reading, but let's just say I had a slightly similar experience... did you try emailing the program chair, Dr. Montgomery? Her email is on the Chapman website. She seems to be very helpful, maybe if you explain the situation she can help get things straightened out? -

I'm still at "application complete" for UMD as well -- not a fan of only some people getting notified! As more time goes by I get less hopeful -- I haven't seen any rejections yet, only acceptances, so I have to think that no news is not good news in this case, but maybe I'm being overly pessimistic! -

No, UMD is my only Maryland school, but I did apply to both Vanderbilt and PDX state as well... here's hoping we both get some good news soon! -

This is probably a stupid question, but I filled out so many apps that now I can't even remember specifying a two-year vs three-year for UMD. Is three-year just for people who do not have a COMD background? Allie, I also applied to UMD (I'm assuming the two year program? haha... not a good sign if I can't remember, but I do have a background in COMD) and haven't heard anything yet, good or bad. -

arg, i agree. I think I'd be a lot less hesitant about going if I knew for sure I had made it past some kind of "first cut" or something. Oh well -- I'll just think of it as a good reason to take a vacation to Chicago, and if a grad school acceptance comes of it, even better! -

I just got the invite in today's mail (postal mail), so maybe be on the lookout! It implies that they're inviting a "select group" of applicants, but I have no idea how big that group might be or how important it is to go. I'd be coming from LA, so a short-notice trip to Chicago is going to be pricy... but I don't want to not get in because I don't show up to this. I'll probably go. -

Hi all! I'm applying (er, have applied) for fall 2012 and figured I'd join in here to give me something to do as I'm waiting to hear back! I applied to: MGH Vanderbilt Northwestern Rush UMD University of the Pacific Portland State Columbia - Teacher's College Pacific University In hindsight I wish I had applied to a few less-competitive schools (relatively speaking, this program is crazy) but I actually avoided the cal state schools for exactly that reason. My GRE and post-bacc GPA are both good, but my GPA from my first undergrad is not so stellar. Good luck to everyone and hope we start hearing about some acceptances soon!
