  1. Well you'll know soon about UIC because they already made decisions from what I understand!
  2. One could only dream.
  3. Honestly, I like all of the schools. But as far as I know, the only one that doesn't care about GREs and offers full-funding *is* NU. What is your first choice? And for NU, did you talk to Schoenbrun or Glassman?
  4. I know! When I first saw my scores on the computer screen, I nearly cried because I was like, "Where's the zero?!" It should have been a 1580 total. JK. Yeah, the score apparently equates to a 580-590 so I didn't even break 600. It could've been worse, I guess. I could have fainted like the kid next to me.
  5. I applied to NU, UCLA, and Boston. I know -- not many, but I'm just particular by nature. I was going to apply to UChicago's program in Anthropology and History, because I wanted to work with Jean and John Comaroff, but I found out from a friend who studies under them they are moving to Harvard next year. Their work is a tad controversial, though, so perhaps it is for the best that I work somewhere else. Haha.
  6. And Safferz, thanks for the reassurance! I need it with all this anxiety.
  7. For the record, I'll give you an idea of how bad my GREs were. My verbal was only a 158. My quantitative even lower...much lower. However, I did get in an accident before and was on vicodin while taking it. It's only funny now that I am looking back on it, not to mention that the kid next to me fainted halfway through the test. It was just a horrible day to take the GRE, I think.
  8. Oh wow, I guess that's sort of good news...but what do they mean it may make the difference with the grad committee? Does that mean that even if the POI wanted you, the grad committee could decide to turn you down? Ugh, I hope not.... And yes, I heard from one of my POIs they are most concerned with the writing sample, so that seems consistent.
  9. Yeah, I basically can't sleep. And it's ridiculous. I keep milling about because I sent in apps to top programs for my subfield and feel a bit stupid seeing as that my GREs were, frankly, idiot level. However, I do have a high GPA, good writing sample, and have done work already in my country of interest. I have no idea how it will pan out, but I hope for the best. I've noticed most people on these forums all have very high GRES and GPAs, so they're a stellar bunch and I feel silly being on here and even worse knowing I'm at a disadvantage. I should probably stop worrying, though...
  10. I am neurotic. Why else would I be checking this forum and the status of my apps at 1 in the morning on a Sunday? What is your subfield? I feel there are a lot of people doing European and American.
  11. I'd say it can go either way. Though it's probably worse to hear no response back since that means they really, really couldn't be bothered. :/ And I finally pm'ed you back! sorry for the wait, haha.
  12. West Coast? It's still nearly 8 o'clock over there. But yes, it doesn't count if you're on the phone, haha. I can say I'm pretty lame as I'm at home in Chicago doing nothing but reading a book and these forums....
  13. The whole campus is very much so. It was built with the intention of being riot-proof, since apparently, there were a lot of riots and strikes going on in Chicago in the 1960s. The architect, Walter Netsch, wanted to ensure that no one could throw a chair or desk out the window so he composed one wonderful building right next to the one you visited called the Behavioral Sciences Building. It features numerous classrooms without windows. Fifty years later, the campus is trying to make up for this deficit by composing entire buildings made of glass. You may have spotted one when you visited!
  14. Ha no worries. Understood. Sort of in the same boat. You'll most likely get into UIC, though, regardless of what may be. It has good funding, but in the winter, it really looks like a glorified bomb shelter.
  15. HAHAHAHAH I love that you said that. It's always mildly disconcerting when a response is rendered in that fashion.... But thanks, yeah...one of my professors at the moment was saying NU is notoriously difficult. They accept only 14 to 15 people. And I see you applied to UIC? That's where I am at the moment. Who did you apply to work with? I've taken several classes on Britain with Prof. James Sack, who actually is the one who was talking to me about NU.
